We’re going to be examining the opening game of the CBI best-of-3 series on Monday between UL-Monroe & Loyola-Chicago. Read our revealing betting article which culminates with a totals selection.

Opening Game of CBI Finals
Tonight will be the opening game of the best-of-three 2015 CBI Finals series between the UL-Monroe Warhawks (24-12) and the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (22-13). The opening tip is slated for 8:00 PM ET, and the game will be televised by the CBS Sports Network. Game one of this championship series will be played at the Joseph J. Gentile Center in Chicago. The series will switch back to Monroe, Louisiana on Wednesday. According to the NCAA basketball odds at Bookmaker, the home standing Ramblers are currently a 6.0 point favorite, and the posted total is 130.0.

Teams Road to the Finals
UL-Monroe has gone a perfect 3-0 SU&ATS in the CBI on their way to reaching the finals. All three of those wins came in the role of an underdog. They were a 71-67 winner over Eastern Michigan as a 1.5 point road underdog in the opening round, defeated Mercer on the road 71-69 as a 4.5 point underdog in the quarterfinals, and then defeated Vermont 71-65 as a 1.0 point home underdog in the semifinals. Each of those three contests went over the total. The Warhawks have gone a respectable 10-9 on the road and neutral sites this season, and were an extremely profitable 13-6 ATS in those contests. They’ve proven to be a stingy defensive team which allows 60.3 points per game, and has held opponents to a paltry 38.1% shooting from the floor.

Loyola-Chicago has won each of their first three games of the CBI at home versus Rider, Oral Roberts, and Seattle. The Ramblers have been an excellent shooting team this season, and they much prefer a slower tempo type of game. They’re shooting a stellar 47.1% from the field, converting on a superb 39.4% of their three-point attempts, and average only 48 field goal attempts per game. That’s in stark contrast to tonight’s opponent (UL-Monroe) that averages 57 field goal attempts per contest. The Ramblers forced 22 turnovers in their 63-48 CBI semifinal win over Seattle. They’re allowing 60.4 points per game this season, and that has more to do with controlling tempo, as opposed to defensive prowess.

College Basketball Totals Angle
Any team (Loyola-Chicago) with a total of 130.0 to 139.5, coming off a game in which they allowed 50-points or less, versus an opponent (UL-Monroe) coming off three straight wins, and each of those victories came by 6-points or less, has seen that team go under the total in 23 of those 27-games (85.4%) since 1997. The average combined score in those 27-games was 121.4, and 74.1% of those contests stayed under the total by 7.0 points or more. I like this game to be a low scoring affair, and my NCAA Basketbal picks on Monday will be reflective of just that.
