The undefeated Oregon Ducks travel to meet the UNLV Rebels at the MGM Garden Arena on Friday night. Let’s review what the NCAA Basketball odds makers are offering on this showdown and cash in our NCAA Basketball picks.

Oregon (6-0 SU, 2-2 ATS)
The Ducks hit the road for the first time this season and are shooting for a 7-0 start for the second time in three seasons. Oregon is averaging 78.8 points per game and 36.7 rebounds per contest but it is their defense that has been critical in helping them to their perfect start. The team is holding opponents to just 64.3 points per game with a suffocating defense employed by head coach Dana Altman. Yet the Ducks were outrebounded in their last two contests by Arkansas State and Fresno State which put more pressure on the offense to continue to press and score.

The Ducks failed to cover the number that the NCAA Basketball odds makers were hanging in their 78-73 victory over Fresno State. Oregon has watched big leads melt away on three occasions this season and if it were not for the 21 points and second double-double of the season by 6’6” sophomore forward Dillon Brooks Oregon could have had their lone loss of the young season in their last outing against the Bulldogs. Oregon is 40-2 against nonconference opponents since calling Matthew Knight Arena their home five years ago.

UNLV (6-1 SU, 3-1 ATS)
If you bet the Rebels in their four lined games this season in your NCAA Basketball picks you would have taken the books’ money on three occasions. Their last outing was an unlined game against Prairie View A&M and it was an as expected dominant performance against a small school with the Rebels running away with an 80-62 victory. Patrick McCaw bucketed 18 points while Derrick Jones chipped in with 14 of his own. However, it was their previous 72-69 win over Indiana that arched eyebrows as the Rebels defeated the Hoosiers despite being labeled as eight-point underdogs in that contest.

UNLV’s lone loss of the season came in the opening round of the Maui Invitational when they bowed 72-69 to UCLA. Despite that setback the Rebels have pretty much had their way with the competition thanks in large part to sophomore guard Patrick McCaw who is who is shooting nearly 50 percent from the three-point arc and leading the team a 19 points per game average. Freshman Derrick Jones has been a boon to the Rebels as well notching an average of 13 points per game off the bench. UNLV has a team average of 83.6 points per contest which ranks them 38th in the nation.

Betting Analysis
This ought to be an enjoyable game to watch with two teams that can score and are evenly matched. Oregon is ranked No. 15 in the country as they head into this matchup tonight but I am siding with the Rebels who are playing in their own backyard and should enjoy a sizeable advantage on the glass. Oregon has gotten waxed on the boards this season and turnovers have plagued them as well. Fortunately they have played a soft schedule up to this point with Indiana being the only legitimate threat thus far.

However, the Ducks will face their second legitimate threat of the season when they take on the Rebels tonight. UNLV statistically has a sizeable advantage over Oregon in points scored, rebounds and assists however the Ducks get it done on defense and that is the only cause for pause on this play tonight. Nevertheless, we will side with the Rebs in this one.
