The Wildcats desperately need a win, but it's not going to come easy against Otto Porter and the Hoyas. After examining the college basketball odds, we've come up with our best play on this Big East matchup.
A total of 122 has been installed by sportsbooks, though you can also find 121 on the board if you feel the OVER is the right way to go with your sports picks. The UNDER has gone 7-3 in the past 10 head-to-head meetings.
Very few teams are as hot as the Hoyas, a team that's pulled together 11 straight wins heading into tonight's battle in Philadelphia.
Along the way, Georgetown has toppled some terrific opponents, including Louisville, Syracuse, Marquette, Cincinnati and Connecticut. As you'd expect, they've been extremely profitable during the run, going 9-2 ATS.
Over the weekend the Hoyas needed a second-half surge to beat Rutgers. The score (64-51) may not suggest it, but the game was pretty much close throughout, and Georgetown was lucky Otto Porter came to play once again.
Porter, who continues to dazzle night in and night out, was all over the place. He finished with 28 points on 6-of-12 shooting and added eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
The Hoyas weren't able to cover (-13.5) against the Scarlet Knights, but readers have to like their 4-1 ATS record over their last five road contests. They've also covered in five of their previous six encounters with the Wildcats.
Losers of two straight, the Wildcats have a tremendous opportunity to boost their NCAA Tournament hopes should they beat Georgetown tonight.
Villanova has dropped consecutive road games, losing to Seton Hall by a point and then falling in overtime to Pittsburgh over the weekend. The Wildcats had their fair share of chances to win the game before the extra period, but it just wasn't meant to be.
There were a few noteworthy performances from Villanova despite the loss. Ryan Arcidiacono had 23 points (6-of-14 FG, 5-of-8 from three) to go along with four assists and three rebounds, while JayVaughn Pinkston and Mouphtaou Yarou combined for 27 points and 13 rebounds.
The Wildcats were able to cover (+9.5) for backers in the overtime defeat and have now gone a healthy 14-6 ATS over their last 20 games overall.
What's more, Jay Wright's team has covered in seven of their last ten at home and have gone 4-1 ATS in their past five contests following a straight up defeat.
College Basketball Pick
You better believe the Hoyas are going to get almost all of the action with the public's sports picks. At time of writing, 81 percent were on Georgetown to cover.
We are heading to our rebellious side once again though and picking Villanova to score the upset win at “home”.
There's a reason the Wildcats are favored here over the #5-ranked team in the country., despite losing two straight and having the far worse overall record. They've taken care of business at home, whether it be at the Wells Fargo Center or The Pavilion, beating the likes of Syracuse, Louisville, and Marquette, while posting a 8-5 ATS record overall.
We feel fairly confident that this game will come down to the final seconds, but the fact Villanova has already notched two upset wins in this building this season and also has much more to play for is what's swaying the tide for us.
