NCAA basketball odds show a matchup of two teams that have similar resumes this season when Wisconsin takes on Georgetown in Madison Square Garden. What will be the smartest pick for us here?

NCAA College Basketball Odds
NCAA odds makers made Wisconsin a -1 favorite and the line has moved to them be favored by -2.5. There are some good early NCAA Basketball odds to grab the points with Georgetown like plus the 2.5 at -105 at BetOnline. For my NCAA college basketball picks, I am going to take the Hoyas to hang in until the end or win their first game of the year.

Wisconsin Badgers
On the year, Wisconsin is averaging 79 points per game, shooting 45.3% from the field, and 34% from beyond the arc. In Bo Ryan's last year, the Badgers seem to be in a bit of a rebuilding mode and were shocked in their first game of the year against Western Illinois. They have bounced back the last couple of games, but will go up a step in class facing a Georgetown team looking for their first win of the season. Not much has changed for Wisconsin as they will run their swing offense, but it seems they don't quite have the same deadly three point shooters as last season. Not to say they don't have some capable weapons like in returners Nigel Hayes and Bronson Koenig, but this is a real young team.

Defensively, the Badgers are allowing 66 points per game, 46.8% shooting from the field, and 44.7% from beyond the arc. So far this season they have done a decent enough job versus lesser competition even with the one loss. With Bo Ryan you know they are going to play fundamentally right and hard. What has impressed me with them so far, though, is that they have allowed just 29 opponent rebounds per game which ranks 25th in the country. They are not really big this year so that is a lot of good boxing out and getting to the ball. Tonight that will be a challenge against a more athletic team.

Georgetown Hoyas
In two losses, Georgetown is averaging 75.5 points per game, shooting 47.7% from the field, and 36.6% from beyond the arc. Last game they took a very talented Maryland team to the wire in a game they could have easily won. They have had some talent the last few years, but have been unable to make a strong tournament push like losing last year in round two to Utah. This year they return their backcourt highlighted by D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, who lead the Hoyas in scoring last year, and L.J. Peak who can also play small forward. Last year they lost to Wisconsin 68-65 at the Battle for Atlantis.

Defensively, Georgetown has allowed 78.5 points per game, 44.6% shooting from the field, and 39.1% from beyond the arc. This game has a chance to be decided on two fronts in my opinion, the boards and the three. Neither team has been particularly great at shooting or defending beyond the arc and they both hit the boards well enough. I do like how Georgetown outrebounded Maryland though and I believe they will win that battle tonight.

Going against Bo Ryan is never ideal, but there is some decent value in grabbing the points in this matchup. There are a lot of parities between these two programs, but for one of your NCAA Basketball picks, I suggest giving the nod to the Hoyas plus the points. No real clear cut better team and Georgetown will have the best player on the floor in Smith-Rivera.
