The Wildcats remain undefeated and it's hard to envision that changing this evening in a very winnable home game against Auburn. The college basketball odds have Kentucky as the heavy favorite today.
If you're wanting to back Kentucky tonight, you're going to have to cough up a ton of points. The Wildcats are laying anywhere from 25 to 26 points on their home floor.
The O/U is trading at 137 points right now on the NCAA basketball betting odds, and this one's going to come down to whether or not Auburn's going to be able to score enough points. We know Kentucky's not going to have much trouble scoring the basketball, but there's reason to worry about the Tigers' being able to put the ball in the hoop.
The Wildcats just can't stop winning, and we're getting down to crunch time now. They're getting oh so close to finishing the regular season undefeated and they're now at 26-0 overall on the year. There's been no stopping Kentucky and, even though Alex Poythress is out for the year, we know John Calipari's team has enough talent to keep chugging along without skipping a beat.
Calipari's group has been incredibly dominant over their past two games, thumping South Carolina by 34 and then running away from Tennessee on the road on Tuesday. Against the Volunteers, Kentucky was only ahead by four at halftime, but they pulled away in the second half en route to a 66-48 win. The Wildcats only shot 41.5 percent from the floor, but they locked down defensively, especially after the break, and Devin Booker's 18/7/3 line off the bench definitely came in handy too.
It was business as usual for Kentucky, a team that's been as good defensively as we've seen in quite some time. With a ridiculous amount of length, athleticism and overall talent, the Wildcats are easily able to overwhelm opponents, especially because of their "platoon" system that's keeping everyone fresh.
Though they haven't been the worst team in the conference - that honor belongs to Missouri, who have won just one game in SEC play so far - the Tigers have endured their fair share of struggles. They're 12-14 overall and 4-9 in the conference and come in having lost three of four and seven of their previous nine.
Four days ago, Auburn fell short in a 79-68 loss to rival Alabama. Antoine Mason and KT Harrell were both great, combining for 45 points on 15-of-23 shooting, but it still wasn't enough to guide the Tigers to what would have been a morale-boosting win. Auburn was poor defensively, allowing Alabama to shoot 52.9 percent overall and 42.9 percent from three.
As you'd expect by looking at this season's performances, there hasn't been much the Tigers have done well. They've been awful defensively here as of late (allowing Arkansas to drop over 100 points) and haven't been a lot better on the other end of the court. This season they're averaging 68.7 points a game.
NCAA Basketball Pick
Let's just keep this short and to the point. We don't feel comfortable with any other college basketball picks other than backing the Wildcats. When a team is in the midst of something special, like they currently are, you've kind of just got to ride the wave. We're not going to fade Kentucky until they give us a reason to.
Meanwhile, the Tigers have been one of the most disappointing teams in the SEC season and haven't done much of anything to deserve a lot of consideration.
What's more, we're not scared off by a backdoor cover, as Kentucky has the necessary depth to increase leads and not let them get away late in games. We expect the Wildcats to keep doing what they're doing on their way to another dominant victory.
