The Colorado State Rams looked great in their disposal of the Missouri Tigers on Thursday night. Now they’ll have to ramp it up a notch as they face the top-seeded Louisville Cardinals.

College Basketball Betting – Colorado State vs. Louisville Picks

On top of that, they’ll be working against the crowd as this contest will take place at Rupp Arena, which should be decisively painted red and white on Saturday.

Colorado State can win because…

They are a smart, veteran team. Coach Larry Eustachy will have a good strategy for this game and his team probably won’t play into Louisville’s hands as easily as North Carolina A&T did. In other words, don’t expect the Cards to have 20 steals. As a matter of fact, the Rams have five seniors to rely upon and they do a great job of taking care of the ball and finding the shot they want each possession.

NCAA basketball odds know that the Rams are a capable bunch highlighted by the production of Colton Iverson and Dorian Green. If those guys can lead the way and the Rams can control the pace of this game – not the Cardinals – then they’ll have a shot.

Louisville can win because…

Colorado State doesn’t know what’s about to hit ‘em. Sure, the Rams looked good in their opening-round minor upset of Missouri. However, the Tigers decided they weren’t going to play any defense on Thursday, which made Colorado State’s path to the Round of 32 that much easier. People making their NCAA basketball picks know that Louisville is among the best defensive teams in the country – 15th in points per game (58.0), to be exact – and the Rams are going to face much more resistance this time around. The Cardinals are also first in the country in defensive efficiency. The Cardinals had a whopping 20 steals in their opener against North Carolina A&T, which is a new Tournament record, and you can rest assured that they’ll be looking to keep the heat on the Rams all night long.

Louisville should have a clear edge when it comes to the benches here as the Rams run a seven-man rotation while the Cardinals are very deep. With guys like Kevin Ware, Luke Hancock, Montrezi Harrell and Stephen Van Treese, they have lots of contributors to round out the starting lineup.

The Cardinals are the top overall seed in the Tournament. Colorado State simply doesn’t have enough to pull off this upset.

Outlook & Prediction:

The Rams will need the perfect storm to pull this upset. The Mountain West got pummeled on Thursday and that doesn’t lend much support to Colorado State’s chances in this game. Look for Louisville’s stellar defense to clamp down on Green and Iverson, and the Cards to control the tempo.

Most people have Louisville advancing here in their brackets and people making their sports picks should agree. Bet the Cards.
