Free NCAA Basketball picks for this evening's matchup between the Clemson Tigers and the Citadel Bulldogs. Where do we believe that the best betting value lies, and how much are we laying?

The Clemson Tigers have notched a 5-2 spread record in their seven ‘board’ battles, including a 2-0 ATS mark as double-digit favorites. Tuesday’s basketball slate has Brad Brownell’s squad playing its final spot before Atlantic Coast Conference play begins, hosting the Citadel Bulldogs as big ‘chalk.’  Will Clemson run it up enough here or can the Bulldogs keep it within the NCAAB betting lines?

Tigers, Jennings thrash South Carolina State

Clemson has been idle since Dec. 23, notching a ‘non-board’ triumph over the South Carolina State Bulldogs. The 77-41 rout saw Clemson hold South Carolina State to 31 percent field shooting, coasting after a 36-18 halftime lead.

Tigers mates Milton Jennings and Demarcus Harrison put up 15 points each, uniting to drain 5-of-11 buckets from three-point land. Harrison added six assists and three of his side’s 11 steals.

Clemson’s Jordan Roper was held to a 0-for-7 day from the floor in 27 minutes of action, while Tigers forward Devin Booker logged a team-high seven boards. Booker and Co. sank 9-of-16 free throws, while outrebounding South Carolina State, 36-29.

Citadel, Elmore crushed at Georgia Tech

The Citadel logged its sixth straight loss in last week’s 73-41 spanking as a 22-point road dog against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Bulldogs forward Stephen Elmore notched a team-high 10 boards, while finishing with eight points.

Elmore and his mates found themselves held to a sparse 25.4 percent field shooting mark. The Bulldogs were also sizably outrebounded, 48-27, while drilling just 3-of-22 shots from outside the arc.

The Citadel’s Janeil Jenkins came away with five of his side’s 12 assists, while center Mike Groselle notched a season-low nine points. Groselle added three steals, while the Bulldogs allowed Georgia Tech to connect at 43.7 percent from the field.

Back Clemson as home ‘chalk’

The NCAA Basketball odds makers at opened Clemson as 23 ½-point home ‘chalk.’  Early betting ‘steam’ on the Tigers lifted the number to 24 before dropping back to a flat 23.

I am laying the big number for today's NCAA basketball picks, looking for Clemson to smother another foe here. The Tigers rolled over The Citadel last November in a 73-50 thrashing, collecting as a 17 ½-point road favorite.

Clemson shot 53.7 percent from the field in that affair, with Booker and Jennings uniting to hit 10-of-17. The Tigers logged 11 blocked shots, holding the Bulldogs to a 30.2 percent night from the floor.

The Citadel is 9-23 ATS in its last 32 road games, including a 0-3 spread record this year. The Bulldogs’ defeat to Georgia Tech marked their second straight losing ticket as an underdog of 20 points or more, with the prior setback coming Dec. 19 in a 97-57 spanking against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.

Clemson saw its octane of scoring dip through November as its schedule strengthened, but has found the rims more steadily against its lesser foes. The Tigers have piled in 78 PPG in its three ‘non-board’ affairs at home, while holding the visitors in that span to 47.3 PPG.

Look for the Tigers to pile in the points again here, while The Citadel starts continues its slide at the betting windows.
