The ACC tournament kicks off Tuesday afternoon with a battle of bottom-dwellers as 12th-seeded Boston College and 13th-seeded Georgia Tech meet in Greensboro. This game probably won't attract much attention from bettors, but in doing our homework we found what looks like a solid  lean.

Jackets-Eagles Betting Odds
Most NCAA Basketball Odds outlets we checked with opened this game with Boston College favored by one point, then bumped the Eagles to -2.

Jackets-Eagles: Background
These teams finished the regular season with identical 12-18 records. Boston College finished in 13th place in the ACC at 4-14, Georgia Tech 14th at 3-15.

Georgia Tech has lost four games in a row, after getting blown out by North Carolina last Tuesday 81-49. The Wreck trailed by 18 at the half and put up little fight from there, totally whiffing against the spread as six-point home dogs.

Just before that Tech lost at Clemson in overtime 70-63; and just before that the Wreck almost upset Louisville, coming just short at 52-51. So they had given a couple of good efforts recently. But as if Georgia Tech didn't have enough problems, leading scorer Marcus Georges-Hunt (14 points, six boards PG) suffered a broken bone in his foot in the loss to North Carolina and will miss the rest of this season, although that shouldn't be much longer.

Boston College, meanwhile, had lost nine in a row, but ended the regular-season with a three-game winning streak, after beating Wake Forest Saturday 79-61. The Eagles led by eight at the half, then scored the first two buckets of the second half to take charge. On the night BC shot 54 percent from the floor, and held the Deacons to 41 percent shooting.

Just before that the Eagles won at Virginia Tech 66-59, and just before that they beat NC State 79-63. In fact, BC is 4-0 ATS over its last four games.

Boston College took the only meeting between these teams during the regular season six weeks ago down in Atlanta 64-62. The Eagles led that game by 11 points about midway through the second half, allowed the Jackets to rally and tie the score with less than two minutes to go, then hit some big free-throws late to claim the victory.

BC shot 46 percent from the floor that night, and hit 9 of 20 shots from beyond the arc, while holding Tech to 38 percent shooting on its home court.

Last season the Jackets swept three games from the Eagles, including a 73-70 overtime decision in the opening round of the ACC tournament.

By the Numbers
BC is shooting 45 percent from the floor this season, only 32 percent from 3-point range and 70 percent from the line. The Eagles are also allowing opponents to shoot 44 percent.

Georgia Tech is shooting just 41 percent from the floor, a miserable 27 percent from 3-point range and 65 percent from the line. The Wreck are also allowing foes to shoot 44 percent from the floor.
