Southern Illinois vs. Wichita State 9:00PM ET
S. Illinois, at 18-5 SU, enters this contest with the better record (Wichita St. is 16-5 SU). Until the last week, many believed S. Illinois was the 2nd best team in the Missouri Valley. A remarkably easy schedule in the preseason, then facing a schedule comprised of the lower echelon of the Missouri Valley, created that illusion. Then, the reality that the Salukis were picked to finish 9th in the Valley began to surface. In the last week, they have lost at home to Evansville (85-78) (the true No. 2 team in the Valley) and at N. Iowa (67-58), the team who many believed in the preseason to be the No. 2 team in the Valley. Now, they must go to Wichita to face a Wheat Shocker team in the Roundhouse, who is destroying all Missouri Valley competition.

Holding a commanding 3-game lead over these Salukis and the Purple Aces for Valley dominance, one could expect a letdown by Wichita St.  But under hard-driving mentor, 9th year HC Marshall, it is improbable that will happen. For, the Shockers have played to near perfection in conference play this year. Early injuries to Cleveland St. transfer, Grady, and PG VanVleet meant that Wichita St. finished November with consecutive losses vs. USC, Alabama and Iowa for a 2-4 SU, 0-4 ATS beginning. The upside of those injuries is that it allowed Marshall to create great depth on this team with his 2nd unit often outscoring the starters from the opposing team. Since that horrendous November, Wichita has gone 14-1 SU (lone loss by 4 at Seton Hall) and 13-2 ATS. It is typical Wichita, under Marshall, as when this team gets on a conference roll, it continues! Check out this amazing stat about Marshall and the Shockers. They are now 58-20 ATS in the game following a conference win of 10 or more points. That includes a record of 16-4 ATS the last two seasons and 7-1 ATS this season with 5 consecutive pointspread victories. Sharp money has already bet this game up 2 points, eroding some of the value from this number. But the way in which Wichita is consistently dominating the opposition and their incredible depth, means there is only one side to consider in this contest.
