The Sooners are unbeaten and a top-five team in the nation. They have defeated Memphis, Wisconsin, and Villanova, and two of those three wins have come away from home. The Sooners are getting the very best of what their star player has to give. Buddy Hield has enjoyed a number of very successful games as a shooter. His jump shot can come and go, but he’s had the touch on a number of nights so far this season. When Hield has everything rolling, Oklahoma is just about impossible to beat. If Hield is in rhythm, Oklahoma should feel very good about what it can do on the court. The other big advantage for Oklahoma is not just Hield, but a veteran starting five. Ryan Spangler is a tough force in the paint, and Oklahoma has balance at all five positions on the court. The Sooners can score in different ways, and they have veteran defenders who are quick enough to get to the right spots and shut off dribble penetration.

Washington State is 7-2 overall. One of the Cougars’ two losses came to Gonzaga, a loss which can be viewed as very acceptable. The Cougars’ other loss was their one road game at Idaho, a bad result which raises definite alarm bells about Washington State in the near future. Even though teams will have off nights and not play at a high level all the time, there’s really still no excuse for being bad enough to lose to Idaho. Washington State was obviously skilled enough to stay somewhat close to Gonzaga – that game was not a blowout – but the Cougars looked really awful when they weren’t focused or in tune with what they needed to do. They barely beat Texas State at home on Friday night. They might have a good record, but it’s a bit inflated at the moment.

Home-Away Trends
This is a neutral-court game. Oklahoma is playing its second neutral-court game of the season, having played a previous game in a neutral location, also in Honolulu. The Sooners beat Villanova earlier in December. Washington State is playing its first neutral-court game of the season after playing eight home games and only one road game.

Neither team has any injuries at this time.

What’s The Pick?
The NCAA Basketball odds show a big line for this game. Oklahoma hasn’t lost yet and is making a run at a number one seed in the NCAA tournament. The Sooners, thanks to their blowout win over Villanova, have made a very loud statement about how good they are, and how good they can continue to be. Oklahoma looks like a very convincing team. Washington State is the exact opposite. Washington State doesn’t have a home arena in which to gain more momentum here. Oklahoma should cover the spread, so take them with your NCAA Basketball picks.
