With PAC 12 play opening up, we have two of the more surprising teams this season meeting in Washington when the Washington State Cougars take on the USC Trojans on Friday night. I expect this game to be a high-flying affair with both teams getting up and down the court, so expect a lot of points tonight. Let's review the NCAA basketball odds for this matchup and find some value...

USC Trojans
USC is averaging 83.1 points per game while shooting 46.4% from the field, and allowing 68.3 points per game on 38% shooting from the field. It seems that they are a little bit ahead of schedule of their rebuilding plan because this is a really talented team. They have won six games in a row and have been competitive in every single game this season. In two of their last three games they have put up 101 and 100 points respectively, and although those two games were at home, I look for them to have little trouble scoring tonight against the Washington State team that likes to get up and down the floor. Offensively they are averaging 64.3 field goal attempts per game which ranks 21st in the country, and making 29.8 of those which ranks 18th. The Trojans have also been excellent at shooting the three averaging 40.1% from distance which ranks 24th in the country. Defensively they have some nice statistics in opponent shooting percentages, but what I like is the pace they allow. On the year they are allowing 65.5 opponent field goal attempts per game which ranks as one of the worst in the country, but that will fit in well tonight with a Washington State team that likes to put up shots.

Washington State Cougars
Washington State is averaging 75.6 points per game while shooting 48.8% from the field, and allowing 69.7 points per game on 41.4% shooting from the field. Head coach Ernie Kent has never been known as a strong defensive minded coach since his days at St. Mary's and Oregon, but he knows his offense and this year Washington State is putting up points. Offensively their overall shooting percentage ranks 21st in the country, and they are shooting a respectable 37.6% from distance. In their last three home games they scored 91, 84, and 78 points averaging well over 50% from the floor. Tonight they will have a tougher task against a more athletic USC team but they should score enough to help get over the total. Defensively they have actually been better than I would've anticipated and rank in the top part of the country in most offensive categories, notably allowing just 30.5% from distance. They do however enjoy getting up and down the floor as they allow 58.8 field goal attempts per game which ranks in the bottom part of the country. Tonight they will face a USC team that is really athletic and will push tempo as much as possible, I anticipate that they will get out and run with them as opposed to slowing things down and getting stops.

This a good matchup of what seems to be two up and coming programs. I'm really high on USC going forward these next couple seasons as I think they have the talent to be a top 10 team. Only time will tell on that, but tonight for one of your NCAA basketball picks, I recommend backing over the total when they meet Washington State in what should be a very fast-paced affair.
