Your highest opening spread on the NCAA basketball board Tuesday is when Wichita State hosts Southern Illinois, while the low number is an ACC showdown between No. 12 Virginia and No. 14 Notre Dame. Here are my picks.

Southern Illinois At Wichita State (-18)

This is a Missouri Valley Conference game and the Shockers were favored to win the conference again, although they are currently a game behind first-place Illinois State, which is the only team without an MVC loss. Wichita has four losses and they are all pretty acceptable: to then-No. 10 Louisville, No. 24 Michigan State, Oklahoma State and at Illinois State. The Shockers blew out Indiana State 84-58 on Saturday. They jumped to a 22-4 lead and that was that. It's the fourth consecutive year the Shockers have swept Indiana State, and Wichita State now has 45 MVC sweeps of its opponents in the last eight years. Shaquille Morris led the way with a career-high 24 points vs. ISU along with eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. He became the first Shocker in four years to lead the team in all four of those categories on the same night. As usual, Wichita State is a very good defensive team in allowing only 64.6 points (36th nationally).

Southern Illinois is .500 in the conference and 11-10 overall. The Salukis have lost two straight but by a combined five points. On Saturday, they were beaten 58-57 at home by  Northern Iowa. The Panthers used a 16-3 run to overcome a 12-point deficit in the final six minutes and earn their first road win of the season. After leading 54-42 with 8;23 left, SIU missed 10 of its final 11 shots from the field. Armon Fletcher led SIU with 16 points, including 14 in a row at one points in the second half. This is the first meeting of the season between SIU and Wichita State. Last season, the Shockers won two blowouts.

The Salukis are 4-1 ATS on college basketball odds in their past five trips to Wichita.

No. 12 Virginia At No. 14 Notre Dame (-2)

This ACC matchup is one of  two games featuring Top-25 teams on Tuesday -- the other is No. 2 Kansas at No. 18 West Virginia.  The Wahoos are on a four-game winning streak after beating visiting Georgia Tech 62-49 on Saturday despite UVA shooting an ACC season-low 22.7 percent (5-for-22) from 3-point range. London Perrantes had 11 points and became the 47th Cavalier with 1,000 career points and fourth Cavalier with 1,000 career points and 500 assists (joining John Crotty, Sean Singletary & Donald Hand). Virginia improved to 6-0 this season and 61-2 all-time when limiting opponents to 50 or fewer points under head coach Tony Bennett. The Cavs led the nation in scoring defense at 53.2 points per game. UVA has a nine-game winning streak vs. Notre Dame. Last year it was 77-66 in Charlottesville.

Notre Dame is one of the better offensive teams in the nation in averaging 81.2 points. It leads the nation in free-throw shooting at an astonishing 82.9 percent and is 10th in assists per game (17.6). The Irish bounced back from an 83-80 loss at No. 10 Florida State last Wednesday with an 84-66 rout of visiting Syracuse on Saturday.  V.J. Beachem finished with a career-high 30 points for Notre Dame, the  most for any Irish player this season. ACC Player of the Year candidate Bonzie Colson finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds for his ACC-leading 12th double-double of the season. The Irish improved to 12-0 in Purcell Pavilion this season and it was the largest of victory for Notre Dame over Syracuse since defeating the Orange 83-63 on Jan. 21, 1998 at Notre Dame.

The Irish are 6-0-1 ATS on college basketball picks in their past seven ACC games.
