How should you adjust your NCAA Basketball picks now that Virginia Cavaliers' star guard Justin Anderson declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft?
This is a Cavaliers team that was ranked #2 at the Big Dance and lost to Tom Izzo and the #7 Michigan State Spartans in the 3rd round of the tournament. There was a difference of opinion as many thought that Virginia should be a #1 team, but in the end, Duke proved that they were the best team in the nation and won the National Championship.
No Replacement For Experience
Malcolm Brogdon (14 points, 3.9 rebounds) returns for his senior season and this is a guy that excels at the fundamentals; a very intelligent player.
Brogdon is a lockdown defensive player that will also come in handy in close game as he's an 87.9% shooter from the charity stripe. After a poor outing against Michigan State, Brogdon will be looking to redeem himself and this is a player that had back to back 20 plus performances in the NCAA Tournament prior to the MSU loss. Look for him to have a big season.
Also returning for the Cavaliers will be Anthony Gill and at 6 foot 8, 230 pounds, the senior will give Virginia some size on the inside. Last season, Gill averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game and was a consistent contributor. Big man Mike Tobey, doesn't provide the Cavs with a ton of minutes, but this 6 foot 11 senior makes the most of his time on the court, averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Finally, London Perrantes will look to improve on his poor shooting as this is a player that has a little flash and can pass dish the rock without committing turnovers. This can be key in those close battles that you know that we'll see in the ACC inter-conference play.

Recruiting On the Back Burner
Let's face it; this is a team that's experienced, won 30 regular season games last year, and is playing for now. The Cavaliers pick up 4-star recruit Jarred Reuter, who is considered the 5th best center in the state of Massachusetts. He's a bit undersized at 6 foot 8, 240 pounds, but this is a player that is known to be a bruiser that can establish a deep post position and possesses a jump hook shot that will be giving defenders fits. He should gradually see some minutes and fit in well in a physical conference.
Losing Anderson is a blow, but this team is a top contender as the odds indicate if you look at the futures in Bovada Sportsbook. The Cavaliers are tied with Kentucky at 10/1 NCAA Basketball odds. As we have found out, it's who get's hot at the right time and Virginia could possibly be one of those teams.
