It's been a blistering start for the Red Storm. Will they keep it going in today's early game against Seton Hall? We've got our college basketball odds preview available for reading inside!
The NCAA basketball odds board has the Red Storm favored by either 2 or 2.5 points, depending on which sportsbook you use.
Meanwhile, a total of 127.5 is trading right now. Neither team has been all that efficient offensively, and oddsmakers are expecting a hard-fought game, which explains the relatively low total.
Seton Hall Pirates
Hard to find much to complain about when it comes to the Pirates, who have raced out to a 10-2 start this season. Their two losses have come against Georgia and Wichita State, both of which came on the road. For the most part though, the Pirates have been beating the teams they should beat, which has them in good stead ahead of conference play.
We last saw Seton Hall live in action in a 72-43 blowout win over Maine. The Pirates shot 49.1 percent from the floor overall and held their opponents to 30.4 percent. They were dominant in every way imaginable, especially on the glass where they out-rebounded Maine 46-32. Sterling Gibbs paced Seton Hall in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, but three others also reached double figures in scoring for the Pirates.
Gibbs has been instrumental to the team's success all season long, averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game on the year. Isaiah Whitehad has been a key part too, putting up 11.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 3.4 APG thus far - those two are the only Pirates averaging double-digit scoring through the squad's first 12 contests.
St. John's Red Storm
Since a hard-fought seven-point loss to Gonzaga, the Red Storm have been excellent, reeling off seven straight wins, including a standout victory over an always tough Syracuse team. St. John's is sitting pretty at 11-1 overall this season and have jumped up to #15 in the AP polls as a result.
The Red Storm have to be feeling good after a dominant 82-57 win over Tulance a few days back. D'Angelo Harrison and Sir'Dominic Pointer were all over the place, combining for 45 points, six rebounds, seven assists and an amazing eight steals (Pointer had seven of those) in the win. As a team, St. John's shot 50.8 percent from the field, while forcing 17 turnovers out of the Green Wave.
Harrison (19.0 PPG and 6.5 RPG) has been the team's best player so far, but a number of guys have been standing out on a consistent basis. Pointer, Rysheed Jordan, and Phil Greene IV are all averaging in double figures, and Chris Obekpa (7.4 PPG and 8.8 RPG) has been a solid presence inside. This team seemingly has all the necessary parts to continue their stellar play, though that doesn't mean it's going to be a walk in the park this afternoon against another solid program in Seton Hall.
NCAA Basketball Pick
This should be a great game from a pure fan perspective, but how can we best take advantage of the available college basketball odds? We've got to be on point in what should be a closely-contested matchup.
Well, we are big fans of this Red Storm team and believe they'll have enough to squeak past the home team and grab the straight up win and ATS cover too. This is a team that hasn't lost since late November, so they've built up some serious momentum while vaulting up the polls in the process.
It also helps to have the best player on the court, and that's Harrison. He should be in for another big game, leading St. John's to the road victory this afternoon. Good luck with all of your NCAA Basketball picks!
