We study how the Top 25 teams in NCAAB performed ATS over the last week to determine who to back with our NCAA Basketball picks and who to fade.
The following table includes the SU and ATS records of the Top 25 teams in NCAA Basketball according to AP.
Based on this information, the Top 25 teams with the best ATS records this season are Michigan State (17-9), Kansas (16-8), Xavier (17-10), Miami (16-10) and Arizona (15-12).
The ranked teams that have poor ATS records and that we should avoid when placing NCAA Basketball picks are Baylor (6-12-1), North Carolina (9-15-1), SMU (9-13) Oklahoma (11-13), Maryland (11-14-2).
Here are the top three ATS teams and the bottom three ATS teams among the Top 25 in the nation this week, based on their recent results.
No. 6 Michigan State (17-9 ATS)
The Michigan State Spartans are 6-1 SU and 7-0 ATS in their last six games, which makes them the hottest team in our rankings. Michigan State visits Ohio State tonight. The Spartans are averaging 79.4 points per game and they will face a Buckeyes team that is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS over their last four games, as they look to reach March Madness.
No. 2 Kansas (16-8 ATS)
Just like last week, the Kansas Jayhawks are the hottest ranked team in the nation, going 7-0 SU and ATS in their last seven games. Their next game is tonight against the Baylor Bears, who are just 3-3 SU and ATS over their last six games. Kansas crushed Baylor 102-74 in their first meeting and they're 2.5-point favorites on the NCAA Basketball odds board.
No. 5 Xavier (17-10 ATS)
The Xavier Musketeers are on a three-game winning streak SU and ATS and they're playing solid defense, allowing just 67.0 points per game in that span. Xavier hosts No. 1 Villanova tomorrow. It will be a hard matchup for the Musketeers, although the Wildcats have not played in an arena as fired up as Cintas Center will be tomorrow.
No. 4 Oklahoma (11-13 ATS)
The No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games and they have lost two of their last three games SU and ATS. Oklahoma hosts Oklahoma State tomorrow before welcoming Baylor next Tuesday. Oklahoma is favored by 14.5 points at WagerWeb and even though Oklahoma State is just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five games, it's hard to back Oklahoma laying so many points here.
No. 10 Maryland (11-14-2 ATS)
The Maryland Terrapins are just 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS over their last three games and now they have a tough game at Purdue next Saturday. The Boilermakers have lost two of their last three games SU and they're just 1-4 ATS over their last five games, so maybe the Terrapins can start becoming more profitable after this contest.
No. 17 Iowa State (12-12-1 ATS)
No. 17 Iowa State is in the middle of an 0-3 ATS run, with just one win in that span. They welcome Kansas State to Hilton Coliseum next Saturday in what should be a highly-contested game. The Cyclones beat the Wildcats 76-63 in the first meeting between this season but this Iowa State squad hasn't been consistent enough to make us feel confident if we back them.
