The Hump Day college basketball betting lineup includes a double-digit spread in Tallahassee where the No. 14 Florida State Seminoles take on the NC State Wolfpack.

Season: 31-29-2 (-0.90)

A recent ESPN article discussing how conferences were stacking up for this year's NCAA Tournament opined the Atlantic Coast Conference has a dozen teams with legitimate shots at making it the Big Dance. Mark Gottfried and the North Carolina State Wolfpack were listed 13th on the list with a lot of work to do if they want to turn things around.

Wednesday night would be a great time to begin that turnaround with a huge upset on the road against the Florida State Seminoles. The 7 PM (ET) contest will be aired on ESPN2, and BetOnline has FSU -13 with the 166½ point total down a touch since the opener.

 'Noles Coming Off Back-To-Back Routs

It's not often a team shoots 56% from the field, 61% from 3-point land and over 82% from the free-throw line only to lose, but North Carolina State (14-10 straight up, 9-12 against the odds) found a way to do that Saturday at home vs. Miami. The setback marked the 3rd-straight loss for the Wolfpack, their second such ACC skid of the season, failing to cover the NCAA basketball odds in all three. In the losses to Miami, Syracuse and Louisville, all three opponents shot at least 50% from the floor and converted at least half of their 3-point efforts.

After dropping consecutive games a couple of weeks ago, Florida State (20-4 SU, 13-9 ATS) pounded a pair of ACC rivals with convincing wins and covers this past week. The Seminoles went to Miami first as 3 point underdogs, and left Coral Gables with a 75-57 triumph. That was the last of a 3-game road trip for Leonard Hamilton's charges, and they came home to rout Clemson by 48 points in a game the 'Noles were laying 6½. It was lights-out shooting in the win over the Tigers, FSU hitting 41-of-62 from the floor, 17-of-30 from beyond the arc.

Road Teams 10-4 ATS Last 14 Battles

Tonight's encounter is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. They obviously could meet again in the ACC Tournament May 7-11 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, but that likely wouldn't come until the quarterfinals, and given how NC State has played, it seems unlikely the Wolfpack could win two games to reach that stage.

The 'Pack holds a 30-24 advantage after Florida State swept both meetings last year. In the matchup at Tallahassee, the Seminoles held on for a 77-73 decision as 6 point chalk, giving NC State backers the cash for the third time in four clashes. Playing the road team and 'over' has been the most profitable wager, each option coming out on top in 10 of the past 14.

If the Seminoles shoot like they did against the Tigers, they can run past any team in the country. Considering how NC State's defense has performed recently, FSU just might swish the net once again and control this game from start to finish. I'm going to play the series trend in this one for my free college basketball pick, however, and take the points.
