North Carolina State comes into this one fresh off a narrow 91-87 loss to Boston College in the second round of the ACC tournament. The Wolfpack fell behind by 14 in the first half only to see their rally fall short in the final frame. NC State has had some impressive victories over the best teams in the country like Arizona, Duke, Clemson and their crosstown rivals from North Carolina. It should also be noted that the Wolfpack ended their season winning and covering five of their last seven contests.

Seton Hall had wrapped their regular season in winning fashion by defeating conference rival Butler by the score of 77-70 as three-point home chalk. However, five days later they met the Bulldogs in a rematch in the Big East quarterfinals, and that game didn’t go nearly as well for the Pirates as they blew an eight-point lead at the half and were nipped 75-74 with four seconds remaining. Seton Hall has won four of their last six, but more importantly covered the NCAA basketball odds in five straight, including their loss to Butler as 1½-point underdogs.

If you like scoring, this game should be circled on your calendar. NC State ranks 33rd in the nation in point production, averaging 81.2 points per game, while their opponents are 58th in the country averaging 79 points per game. Both teams have fair-to-middling defenses allowing roughly 74 points per contest, while Seton Hall has a slight edge on the glass.

Over North Carolina State’s last five games they have averaged almost 84 points per game, while Seton Hall has averaged 75 PPG over their last four, which includes two overtime contests, thus inflating that number. But let’s not forget that the Pirates put forth an enormous effort at home against No. 1 seed in the East, Villanova, on Feb. 28 in which they bowed 69-68 in overtime.

NC State is hitting its stride offensively as the tournament begins while Seton Hall has missed leading scorer Desi Rodriguez, who returned in the loss to Butler after a three-game absence with a foot injury. We can’t imagine Rodriguez will be completely healed, and the Seton Hall offense will continue to suffer because of it. Look for the Wolfpack to outgun the Pirates and make sure to back them in your NCAA basketball picks on Thursday afternoon.
