The No. 2 Michigan Wolverines have reeled off 16 straight wins to start their year, with a 4-1 spread record in the span’s last five spots away from home. Should we put them down for our sports picks?

Sunday Hoops:  No. 2 Michigan at No. 15 Ohio State

The No. 2 Michigan Wolverines have reeled off 16 straight wins to start their year, with a 4-1 spread record in the span’s last five spots away from home. John Beilein’s troops head to Columbus for Sunday’s early tip with the No. 15 Ohio State Buckeyes, who are 3-1 ATS in their last four contests. Will Michigan escape with another win or can the Buckeyes end their rival’s run?

Wolverines, Burke hold off Nebraska

Michigan’s latest victory came in Wednesday’s 62-47 triumph over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, while falling short of collecting as 21-point home ‘chalk.’ The Wolverines were held to 38.9 percent field shooting, including a 3-for-17 night beyond the arc.

Wolverines guard Trey Burke notched team-highs of 18 points and three assists, knocking down 6-of-16 buckets from the floor. Michigan’s Jordan Morgan and Tim Hardaway logged 11 rebounds each, with Morgan held scoreless in 23 minutes of action.

The contest’s combined 109 points ducked below the ‘total’ of 126, ending a 5-0 streak for the OVER in the Wolverines’ prior five games. Michigan shot 17-of-26 from the foul line, while outrebounding the Cornhuskers, 42-28.

Buckeyes, Thomas prevail at Purdue

Ohio State picked up its second win in three spots of Big Ten Conference play with Tuesday’s 74-64 victory against the Purdue Boilermakers. The Buckeyes lit up the floor at a 56.4 percent clip, while cashing as eight-point road favorites.

Buckeyes forward Deshaun Thomas led his squad in scoring with 22 points, drilling 4-of-7 buckets beyond the arc. Ohio State’s Lenzelle Smith grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while uniting with mate Aaron Craft for two assists each.

The duel’s combined 138 points jumped above the ‘total’ of 134 ½, ending a 3-0 UNDER stretch in the Buckeyes’ prior trio of matchups. Ohio State’s Shannon Scott registered eight of his side’s 13 assists, while held to four points in 25 minutes on the court.

Back the Buckeyes at home

Bookmaker.eu opened Ohio State as a 1 ½-point home favorite, while first setting the ‘total’ at 140. Both squads have matchups looming with other ranked foes this Thursday and Saturday, with Michigan traveling to meet No. 8 Minnesota and Ohio State visiting No. 22 Michigan State, respectively.

I am adding the Buckeyes to Sunday’s college basketball picks, laying the low premium in Columbus. Ohio State has held visiting foes to 53.7 PPG, allowing a stingy 34.3 percent field shooting.

Ohio State topped the Wolverines in the rivals’ most recent meeting on the Buckeyes’ floor, last January, notching a 64-49 victory as a 14-point home favorite. Michigan managed just 35.8 percent shooting from the hardwood, while Smith sank 6-of-12 from the floor for the Buckeyes – notching team-highs of 17 points and 12 boards.

Ohio State’s Deshaun Thomas has led the Big Ten in scoring, piling in 20.3 PPG, while mates Aaron Craft (4.7 APG, 2.1 SPG) and Shannon Scott (4.6 APG, 1.8 SPG) rank in the conference’s top five for assists and steals. Look for the Buckeyes to edge out Burke and Hardaway, handing the step up in class on the way to a cashed ticket.

Good luck with all of your sports picks!
