After a wild Thursday in the Big Ten, Friday offers up an old rivalry between the Spartans and Badgers, and we have a free college basketball pick for the matchup.

Wisconsin Badgers vs Michigan State Spartans

Free NCAAB Pick: Michigan State -16
Best Line Offered: at Heritage

It’s not going to feel the same without Wisconsin in the NCAA Tournament. The Badgers have a string of 19 consecutive appearances, and it would seem the only way to keep that alive is to win their final 10 games of the regular season, something which won’t be easy considering the first of those 10 contests is in a building where they haven’t won in 14 years.

Michigan State gets the next chance to add to Wisconsin’s struggles on Friday, Fox Sports 1 at Breslin center for the 8 PM (ET) tip. It’s the largest spread in the rivalry in the last quarter century, Heritage posting the Spartans -16 with the early total on 136.

Wiscy 0-5 SU & ATS Vs. Ranked Teams

Wisconsin fell for the fourth time in five outings Tuesday night at Iowa, the Hawkeyes routing the Badgers 85-67 as 2½ point underdogs. All four defeats on the floor also turned into losing tickets for Wisconsin backers, and the final went past the mark to end a string of 6-straight ‘under’ winners. Greg Gard’s gang is winless in five previous attempts against ranked schools, each of those losses also costing anyone betting the Badgers. Sophomore guard D’Mitrik Trice has missed the last 11 games with a foot injury and is questionable tonight.

Michigan State shot lights-out Monday at Illinois, hitting better than 68% from the field in an 87-74 win over the Fighting Illini. Thanks to 25 turnovers, the Spartans needed to shoot that well to just cover the 12 points on the NCAA basketball odds. Tom Izzo’s troops dominated on the glass to deny Illinois second chances, and also outscored the Illini 23-10 at the free throw line. Miles Bridges led the way with 31 points while Jaren Jackson Jr. posted a double-double (21 pts, 11 reb).

Rivalry History, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick

The 142nd meeting and first of two this season – Spartans are in Madison the final Sunday of the regular season – finds Michigan State holding a 77-64 advantage in the rivalry. The teams have split the last eight, one of Wisconsin’s victories coming in the 2015 Big Ten tourney, but Michigan State has won the last two, covering both to give its backers a strong 10-2 return ATS in the last dozen matchups. Three of the last four at Breslin never made it to the totals.

Never thought I’d see the Badgers getting 16 against any Big Ten foe, but in this case it is definitely deserved; with the way the Spartans have been shooting, I’ll bite the bullet and lay all of those points for my free college basketball pick.
