NHL handicapper has uncovered 2 totals on Thursday’s card which he deems to be strong selections. Take the time to read his analysis in the games between Calgary/Boston & Minnesota/Washington.
Flames at the TD Garden in Boston
The Boston Bruins will play host to the Calgary Flames on Thursday at 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at BoDog, the total in this contest is 5.0. This will be the second meeting of the season between these clubs, and Calgary was a 4-3 home winner over Boston on February 16th. They met twice a season ago with Boston winning both contests by scores 2-1 and 2-0.
Home and Away Splits
The home and away splits this season for both teams suggests a low scoring game tonight. Calgary has seen just ten of thirty-one away games (32.3%) go over the total this season. Boston has gone over the total in just eleven of thirty-two games (34.4%) played at home during the 2014-2015 NHL campaign.
Ramo and Rask Solid in Recent Starts
The Calgary Flames will in all likelihood opt for Karri Ramo in goal. After all, Ramo has a brilliant .962 save percentage during his previous four starts, and why wouldn’t you stay with the hot hand? The Bruins will likely opt for stalwart Tuukka Rask between the pipes for this nonconference affair. Rask has compiled a stellar .928 save percentage in his last four starts.
NHL Totals Betting System
The Calgary Flames are coming off a 3-2 overtime win at Philadelphia in their previous game. The Boston Bruins have allowed two goals or less in each of their last four games. The combination of these results leads us to a very profitable totals betting system that I’ll utilize when making my NHL picks on Thursday.
Any home team (Boston) with a total of 5.0 or less, coming off two straight games in which they allowed two goals or less, versus an opponent (Calgary) coming off an overtime win in their previous game, has seen that home team go under the total in forty-one of those fifty-four games (75.9%) during the past five seasons.

Wild in Washington
The Washington Capitals entertain the Minnesota Wild today at 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at BetOnline, the total in this game is posted at 5.0. This will be the first meeting of the season between these nonconference opponents. They met twice a season ago, and the home team won on each of those occasions.
Stingy Defense by the Wild
The Minnesota Wild has allowed two goals or less in each of their previous seven games. During that time frame they’ve held opponents to 1.6 goals per contest. Tonight’s probable starting goaltender for the Wild is Devan Dubnyk. Since being acquired in a trade by Minnesota, Dubnyk started in twenty-one consecutive games for the Wild, and has been nothing short of brilliant. He’s seen just six of those twenty-one starts (28.6%) go over the total, and has posted five shutouts.
The Washington Capitals have gone under the total in nine of their previous thirteen home games. They’re coming off wins in each of their previous two games by scores of 5-3 at Columbus, and 4-0 on home ice versus Toronto. Braden Holtby is expected to be in goal for Washington this evening, and he has a very good .928 save percentage during his previous four starts.
NHL Totals Betting System
Any team (Minnesota) which has allowed two goals or less in each of their previous four games, versus an opponent (Washington) coming off two straight wins by two goals or more in each contest, has seen that team go under the total in twenty-nine of those thirty-seven games (78.4%) during the past five seasons.
