The NCAA Basktball odds makers have listed the Musketeers as underdogs at home – they're getting 4.5 points at most sportsbooks, with the line growing from an opening number of 3.5. The public was all over Memphis when the lines were released, and we can't really blame them.
That said, the Tigers are are just 11-13 ATS, while Xavier has done a shade better at 12-10-1 ATS.
You'd have to go all the way back to December 15th to find the last time Memphis lost a game straight up. They've reeled off 18 consecutive wins since a 87-78 loss to Louisville.
The Tigers brought the firepower in a 89-73 win over Southern Miss over the weekend. They shot 50.0 percent overall, 45.8 percent from three and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe.
Shaq Goodwin had 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go along with five rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal. Chris Crawford hit five threes en-route to 19 points off the bench, while Adonis Thomas, Joe Jackson and D.J. Stephens all scored at least 12 points apiece.
With the win over Southern Miss, the Tigers locked down Conference USA regular season title. They will once again have a high seed in the NCAA Tournament, but that doesn't mean Memphis will want to relax to close out the season.
Josh Pastner has his team very focused right now and should have his team ready for this challenging visit to the Cintas Center.
The Musketeers lost a tough one to VCU over the weekend, falling 75-71. They did however cover as five-point underdogs coming in.
Xavier was way too sloppy with the ball – they had double as many turnovers (22) as did the Rams – which cost them dearly despite them shooting 54.8 percent from the field.
Five different Musketeers scored in double figures, but the stat-line of the night went to Semaj Christon. He had 11 points and seven assists, but turned the ball over 10 times in the loss at home.
To make matters worse ahead of tipoff, it looks like Xavier will be without Dee Davis for tonight's game. He's experiencing concussion-like symptoms after colliding with a VCU player and is unlikely to be available.
That absence is going to be hard to overcome, as the Musketeers weren't particularly deep to begin with.
College Basketball Pick
You always worry about a letdown when it seems like a team doesn't have too much to play for, but the Tigers are playing so darn well right now that it's hard not to back them with our college basketball picks.
Memphis is an extremely efficient offensive team. Jackson leads the way with 13.8 PPG, but Geron Johnson, Thomas, Crawford and Stephens have all been contributing on the offensive end as well. The Tigers could have trouble with Travis Taylor inside, but ultimately their depth all over the court should more than make up for it. They have multiple guys who can score the rock and grab boards.
The Tigers have gone 4-1 ATS over their last five games and are 5-2 ATS over their previous seven on the road. They've won 13 straight on the road, dating back to last season.
Will they get the job done again tonight? We believe so.
Pick: Memphis Tigers -4.5
