The Memphis Tigers have had success in conference openers recently, as they prepare to take on the South Florida Bulls Tuesday night.

Let’s take a closer look at the NCAA basketball lines for this American Athletic Conference matchup at the USF Sun Dome, with the opening tip scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Start me up

Memphis has put together a two-game winning streak, as it looks to win its 10th consecutive conference opener.

The Tigers are Bulls are meeting for the first time since 2005, but they did spend 10 seasons together in Conference USA.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS as road favorites of 6.5 to 9 points.

Close affairs

South Florida has played nine single-digit outcome games, including a 61-57 victory over Bradley as 1.5-point road favorites last Saturday—improving its record to 6-3 in those circumstances.

The Bulls haven’t had much continuity on the roster this season, as they’ve used seven different starting lineups through 13 games.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the team is 14-26 SU and 20-20 ATS as underdogs, with the UNDER going 24-8 in that situation.

True road game

Memphis dropped a 101-80 decision to Oklahoma State as 9.5-point road underdogs in its only true road game on Nov. 19, with the game going OVER the betting total of 158.5.

The Tigers certainly have the ability of picking up a win if things are close down the stretch, as they’ve compiled a 27-12 record in games decided by five or fewer points under head coach Josh Pastner.

Facing a quality foe

College basketball handicappers are going to have a hard time backing the Bulls in this spot, considering they’ve dropped 11 of the last 12 meetings in this series, while they’ve gone 13-108 SU all-time when facing off against ranked opponents.

South Florida is hoping that starting point guard Anthony Collins can return to action, as he’s missed the last three games due to left knee soreness, but he’s listed as doubtful on the latest injury report.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Tigers for their college basketball picks, as the Bulls are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.
