Our free college basketball picks for Tuesday night take us to Las Vegas for the WCC tournament championship game, and to Valparaiso for the Horizon League title contest. Let's also hope they also take us back to the ticket window to collect a payout.

Phoenix-Crusaders Decide in the Horizon
Valparaiso and Green Bay, who just finished 1-2 in the Horizon League, meet with an NCAA tournament berth on the line in the conference tournament championship game played on the top-seeded Crusaders' home court.

Valpo won the Horizon's regular-season title, going 13-3 in conference play, while Green Bay finished second at 12-4. The Crusaders then reached Tuesday night's title game by beating Cleveland State Saturday 60-55. So Valpo has won 14 of its last 16 games SU, going 10-6 ATS. The only losses in that span came by a point at Green Bay and three points at Detroit.

The Phoenix, meanwhile, reached Tuesday by downing Illinois-Chicago Saturday 70-56. So GB has won seven of its last nine SU, but it's also only gone 4-5 ATS over that span.

Last season Green Bay won the Horizon League during the regular season, but got upset in the semifinals of the conference tournament, missing out on the NCAA bid.

These teams split two games during the regular season, each winning on their home courts. But Valpo covered both games, first as a five-point dog, losing 51-50 in Green Bay, then beating the Phoenix at home 63-59 as three-point favorites on the NCAA Basketball Odds.

We give the Crusaders a slight edge in a head-to-head match-up, but these teams played two tough, close games during the regular season, and we don't see much reason tonight's game won't play out along the same lines. Also, Valpo might be without G Darien Walker (11 points, five boards PG), who's dealing with a sore knee. So we'll take the underdog Phoenix in this spot, plus the points.

Zags-Cougs, Round 3
Having split two games during the regular season Gonzaga and BYU play a rubber match in the WCC tournament championship game in Las Vegas.

The Zags, of course, are already in the NCAA tournament, but for the Cougars nothing is totally certain yet. BYU's victory at Gonzaga last week certainly helped its cause, but getting blown out tonight certainly would not.

The Zags reached this WCC championship game by beating San Francisco Saturday 71-62, then Monday night popping Pepperdine 79-61, covering at -14. Gonzaga only led the Waves by a bucket at the half Monday, but pulled away in the second half.

BYU reached Tuesday's title contest by outlasting Santa Clara Saturday 78-76, then Monday defeating Portland 84-70, hanging on for the cover at -9. The Cougars led the Pilots by 18 at the half Monday and by 23 midway through the second half, before taking their foot off the gas.

As mentioned above these teams have split two games this season; Gonzaga won in Provo back in December 87-80, but BYU won up at Spokane just 10 days ago 73-70. That Cougars victory may be the one that ultimately gets them in the NCAA tournament, while the loss probably cost the Zags a No. 1 seed.

Gonzaga beat Brigham Young in the WCC tournament championship game last season 65-54.

We hit a winner with BYU in that meeting 10 days ago, but the Cougs caught the Zags on an off-night, as the best-shooting team in the nation hit just 44 percent from the floor. Also, that game didn't mean as much to Gonzaga, which had already won the conference title, as it did to BYU, which badly needed a quality victory to enhance its NCAA tournament resume.

We don't usually put much credence in the “revenge” factor, but that's just the way this game might play out anyway. We'll take the Zags with your NCAA Basketball picks, minus the points.
