It appears to be slow in NCAA Basketball tonight with no top 25 games going on, but that's not a bad thing as there are a bunch of Ivy League and MAAC games scheduled and odds makers tend to favor the home team regardless of record. This is a good opportunity to make a profit with our betting picks a we pick out the inaccurate betting lines.
Valparaiso (25-5, 12-3) vs. Cleveland State (17-11, 11-4)
Cleveland State is the Betting Favorite?
The Vikings are a 3 point betting favorite on the posted NCAA basketball odds and that's because they have home court advantage and have faired well in the Horizon League. That said, I'll be all over Valpo in this one as their entire body of work this season is far superior to that of Cleveland State. The Crusaders are coming off of a 2 point loss to a 14-17 Detroit team which ended Valpo's 6 game winning streak. Earlier in the season, the Crusaders defeated Cleveland State, 58-56.
The Crusaders will rely heavily upon leading scorer, Alec Peters. For the season, Peters is averaging 16.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Peters is a great outside shooter for such a large young man. He's a 46.5 % shooter from beyond the arc and can be the difference maker in tonight's matchup. Peters is 9 of 17 from beyond the arc in his last 3 games, but has also been focusing on his rebounding lately, averaging 9.6 rebounds in his last 5 games.
Cleveland State is led by the tandem of Trey Lewis (17.4 ppg., 4.4 rpg. and 43.8% from 3-point range) and Anton Grady (14 points, 7.4 rebounds). Lewis has really played well as of late as he's coming off of a 19 point, 10 rebound effort in a loss to Milwaukee in which he connected on 5 - 3 point shots. In his last 4 games, Lewis has averaged 20.3 points per game. There is definitely a decent amount of offensive firepower in this game and although the Vikings have more than held their own in their own conference and have home court advantage, look for the Crusaders to pick up the "W" tonight as the betting underdog.

Fairfield ( 7-21, 5-13) vs. Canisius (15-13, 10-9)
Two Lousy Teams
Even though Canisius is an above .500 squad, make no mistake about it; they're not a good basketball team. The Griffins offense leaves a lot to be desired as they average 64.3 point per game on just 40% shooting from the field. The good thing for Canisius in this game is that they're playing an even worse team in the Fairfield Stags.
These teams have already met this season and Canisius won quite easily on Fairfield's home court, 64-50. Canisius is a very streaky team. Beginning in the month of February, the Griffins lost 4 straight games to MAAC teams, but have since won 3 out of their last 4 games. As for the Stags, they broke a 10 game losing streak in their last game with a 57-43 victory over St. Peter's. Is this close to an automatic victory for Canisius or can Fairfield use the momentum from breaking their losing streak in this game?
Fairfield features junior forward Marcus Gilbert. Gilbert leads the Stags at 16.6 point, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. Gilbert had 3 consecutive 20 plus point games before the win over St. Peter's. Look for Gilbert to play well in tonight's game as he also is an outstanding defensive player.
Canisius doesn't have a real go to guy. Zach Lewis leads the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game, but he's been in a real slump as of late. Lewis has failed to reach double figure scoring in his last 5 games and shoots just 33.4% from the field on the season.
Even though everything points to a Canisius victory, as I stated earlier, they're not a good team. Look for Fairfield to keep this game close as its the last game of the regular season .Take the points with the Stags for your college basketball picks..
