In NCAA basketball action today there are a ton of really good matchups. We are going to focus on a couple underdogs in Virginia and Nevada. Going on the road is never easy in college basketball, but can these two teams find a way to stay within the number?

Virginia vs West Virginia

Tony Bennett once again has his Virginia team playing great defense and knocking down shots from distance. Oddsmakers have made them a +2.5 underdog in this spot and for my NCAA basketball pick, ’m going to back the Virginia Cavaliers to stay within the number and take this game to the wire. West Virginia looks to be one of the better teams in the Big 12 this season and recently have looked good beating Central Florida and Missouri. Their only loss came early in the season against a very good Texas A&M team, but Virginia can be such a tough defensive matchup that I think the Mountaineers will find it difficult to score. On the season they are shooting a decent 44.4%, and they have really tried to push the pace averaging 69.5 attempts per game. This will be an interesting matchup considering that Virginia currently is allowing opponents to get up just 49.6 attempts per game, and the Cavaliers rank first in the country allowing just 17.9 field goals made per game. West Virginia is also very good defensive team with some nice defensive statistics but I think there is good value in getting some points in this matchup.

Nevada vs Texas Tech

Oddsmakers have come out making Nevada a +4.5 underdog in this spot and for my NCAA basketball pick I will take the Wolfpack. Nevada’s the best team in the Mountain West conference and come into this game undefeated beating most teams by double digits. Their schedule has not been particularly tough with their two toughest games being against Rhode Island and Davidson, both they got to take on at home. Currently the Red Raiders lost to a very good Seton Hall team but outside of that they have looked solid. Nevada has a really talented group this season and currently rank 12th in the country in shooting efficiency as well as shooting 49.9% from the floor. They have been extremely good from distance shooting at a 43% clip which ranks 13th in the country. Of course they probably won’t shoot as well tonight on the road in a hostile environment and Texas Tech has some nice defensive statistics allowing opponents to shoot just 36%. Nevada on the other side of the ball though have been good allowing opponents to shoot 41.3% and ranking 45th in the country in opponent shooting efficiency. I like this matchup, and this is going to be a great game that should go down to the wire so once again I will grab the points.
