After a thorough examination of Thursday night's college basketball betting board we've found a pair of games that catch our attention, both for the same reason; good teams & playing on the road.
George Washington -9 vs. Fordham
Two teams on the opposite ends of the Atlantic-10 standings meet when the 14-4 Colonials visit the 5-11 Rams.
G-Dub has won eight of its last nine games, after beating George Mason last Saturday 63-53. But in shooting just 35 percent from the floor the Colonials missed the cover by a bucket, as 11-point favorites. On the season George Washington owns victories over Rutgers, Colorado and Wichita State, with losses coming against Virginia, Seton Hall, Penn State and LaSalle.
The Colonials are 0-5 ATS over their last five games, but part of that has to do with being favored by so much. At least when playing on the road the spread is a little more manageable.
Our guess is that in the end this season GW will have a decent shot at earning an at-large invitation to the NCAA tournament.
Fordham, on the other hand, will not. The Rams have lost five games in a row, going 2-3 ATS in the process, after falling at LaSalle last Saturday 60-49. Fordham shot just 32 percent from the floor Saturday, and made just three of 26 shots from 3-point land, but covered the spread as a 13-point dog mainly because the Explorers shot the ball so poorly themselves, going just 19-for-29 from the FT line.
Fordham has been an underdog in every lined game it's played this season; it's 2-3 ATS when getting fewer than 10 points.
This is a case of getting the better team at a better line, because it's playing on the road. If this game were being played in DC the Colonials might be favored on college basketball odds by a dozen points.

Arizona -4 vs. Stanford
The Cardinal and 'Cats get tangle out on the Farm for a big game in the Pac-12.
A month ago Arizona got upset by UNLV, then won and covered two games in a row, over Arizona State and Oregon. The Wildcats then got upset by Oregon State, then won two more in a row, over Colorado and Utah. Arizona shot 49 percent from the floor last Saturday, held the Utes to 39 percent shooting and covered as a six-point home favorite.
Stanford, meanwhile, has won three in a row, after beating UConn last Saturday 72-59. The Cardinal only shot 41 percent, but hit 10 of 22 shots from 3-point land and outrebounded the Huskies 48-24, on their way to a cover as six-point favorites.
We took Arizona on the road as our NCAA basketball pick a couple of weeks ago when it played at Oregon, and the Wildcats came through, winning 80-62, covering as a six-point favorite. Bottom-line for tonight's game; Arizona is the better team. It shoots the ball better than Stanford, is better defensively, and does a better job on the boards. In the end we expect the Wildcats to win the Pac-12 again. The Cardinal, meanwhile, have a great chance to make it back to the NCAA tournament this season, but in this spot they're just out-manned. Finally, the Wildcats have beaten the Cardinal nine times in a row. We like Arizona, playing on the road, where the spread is a bit kinder than if this game were being played in Tuscon.
