The Ohio Bobcats travel west from Athens, OH to Miami, OH where they will face the Red Hawks at venerable Millett Hall. Get a quick preview & my NCAA Basketball pick here.

Ohio Bobcats vs Miami (OH) RedHawks
The once strong home boards of Millett had been a distant memory for the Red Hawks prior to their uprising two weeks ago. But before I can tell you that story, and the ensuing letdown that is about to occur, let me tell you the story about these Ohio Bobcats.

Two seasons ago, the very successful North Dakota St Coach Saul Phillips was hired to continue the outstanding play of the Ohio Bobcats. Ohio U was coming off three consecutive seasons in which they had won at least 24 games. But Phillips’ first year at the helm was a disaster with a record of 10-20 SU, 5-13 SU in MAC play. Little more was expected of the Bobcats with just two returning starters. Those expectations quickly changed when they bolted from the gate, covering their first five games by a combined 36 points.

By the start of MAC play, they were on a five game winning streak at 9-3 SU, 7-1 ATS. Going in to their Tuesday game at Akron, the Bobcats were on a 6-1 SU ATS run. But they ran into the three point buzz saw of the Zips, which saw Akron knock down 20 three pointers in a 91-76 victory. Now Ohio looks to finish the year strong with an 11-7 SU league record, which could well be the second best record in the league behind Akron. To do so, they will need a bit of help from their host, the Miami OH Red Hawks.

Betting Analysis
After Miami’s 76-64 loss to these Ohio Bobcats of February 20th, Miami was on a four game losing streak with a record of 9-18 SU, 3-11 SU in the league. In the fourth year under John Cooper, they had yet to surpass 13 victories. They were clearly headed for another lost season, with games remaining against Akron, Kent, and Buffalo. But the shocking three game finish sees them enter tonight’s home finale with three consecutive victories over those winning teams, in which they covered the point spread by a combined 50 points.

History shows us, however, that home underdogs who come off a stunning upset as a double digit road dog have poor success in the ensuing game. With the price dropping like a stone as a result of those upsets, we’re eager to fade this Miami team, which is due to return to Earth.

I invite you to put the NCAA basketball odds boards in your favor, and at this value price, play Ohio U as my NCAA basketball pick on this final night of MAC regular season action.
