Let’s see how is approaching the current odds for both the Sweet Sixteen as well as the national championship and offer up a Friday game pick as well as two more March Madness futures picks.

There has been a rash of Overs in the first 52 games of the Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament and college basketball bettors have been backing the Overs, as they often do, rewarding backers at the betting windows as we head into the Sweet Sixteen games on Thursday and Friday. So how will sportsbooks adjust?

Rash of Overs in NCAA Tournament No Worries For Line Originator

According to, there was an increase of 5 points this year in the Totals posted for NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament over the historical (since 1997) First Round average of 137.3 ppg, with the same increase made in the Sweet 16 with the Totals in this year’s eight games averaging 147.6 ppg compared to the 143.1 ppg average over the last 20 years. The Offshore sportsbook said of the six Totals it moved after release Monday, five had increased with the UCLA-Kentucky South Regionals Total on Friday night (CBS, 9:39 p.m. EDT; UCLA -1 -105, BookMaker) the only game which was bet down, to 168 from its opening 169 on Monday before being bet back up to its current 169.

Heading into Thursday’s Sweet Sixteen games, the favored team has gone 40-12 SU in the 52 games played with Underdogs 29-23 (55.8%) with those aforementioned Overs going 35-16-1 (68.6%) in the first two rounds and the First Four.

“The offenses have been extremely efficient through the first few days of Big Dance action,” said a sportsbook spokesman for “These kids that usually have a tendency to play tight in big games like these are seemingly playing without any pressure, and because of that they are scoring at a good clip.”

And it did make a small dent over the first weekend of play, but isn’t planning to do anything too drastic on their side of the counter.

“It's been fun to watch, but it has hurt us on the totals front because the public has been crushing the overs and there have been some big wiseguy plays on that side as well. Our crew will not adjust going into the Sweet 16, business as usual on the odds-making side of things.”
