Purdue, Baylor, and VCU each present value as rare road underdogs on this trap-filled Saturday schedule. Our expert capper breaks down some very interesting opportunities in today's college hoops action.

No. 14 Purdue vs Michigan

Analysis: This game opened a pick ‘em with the visiting Boilermakers bet up to +1 at some online sports books by Saturday morning. Michigan showed a little life in February, but only beat Rutgers by four points last time out and fell by five at Minnesota prior. The Wolverines are cooling off.

Purdue’s leading scorer Caleb Swanigan (18.6 ppg) is due for a big game. Penn State held the 6-foot-9 star to just 10 points in the Boilermakers’ 74-70 victory on Tuesday. When scoring fewer than 20 points the previous game, the Purdue is 13-2 SU and ATS the next time out.

No. 9 Baylor vs Iowa State

Analysis: Iowa State is 2-8 SU and 4-6 ATS in its last 10 hosting ranked Big 12 opponents at Hilton Coliseum. The Bears have won six of the last seven matchups, including their last two trips to Ames despite tipping of a 7-point underdog in each.

The Cyclones enter with the better form, winning its last four in a row. Baylor, meanwhile, is just 3-4 in its last seven games. One positive for Bears bettors, however, is that the defense has held six of the last seven opponents below their projected team total. In fact, they’ve allowed just two opponents to score more than 75 points all season. This is bad news for Iowa State, an offense-first team that needs to score a lot to win. The Cyclones are a perfect 13-0 SU and 10-2 ATS when dropping 79 points or more in a game. They are 5-9 SU and ATS when putting up fewer.

VCU vs Rhode Island

Analysis: VCU is leading the A-10 with a 13-2 record, dominating the paint in most outings behind Mo Alie-Cox. The 6-7, 250-pound forward scored 21 points in 22 minutes in last year’s matchup at Siegel Center. Expect a big game from the senior.

Under head coach Dan Hurley, Rhode Island falls flat against better conference teams. Since 2012, versus A-10 foes with an average points differential of 6.5 points or better, the northern Rams are 4-22 SU (14-16 ATS) overall. Two of these losses came against Dayton this season. VCU enters with a 9.7 average margin of victory. Rhode Island has just three top-100 wins this season

Other trap games to considerNo. 13 Florida vs No. 11 Kentucky

A lot of value for a team that has strung together nine wins in a row. Rupp Arena was impenetrable for several seasons, but UCLA and Kansas opened the door this year. Don’t be shocked if the Gators take a bite out of the Wildcats at the historic venue as well.
