With a 14-8 record, the Iowa State Cyclones find themselves in a must win situtation where the NCAA Tournament is concerned and the Texas Longhorns (9-14) appear to be the perfect matchup for Iowa State as this is a spot in which Iowa State can pad their record and the betting odds appear quite appealing as Iowa State is a mere 3 point favorite. Can the Cyclones seal the deal?

Iowa State vs Texas

Despite their lackluster season, Iowa State has had a decent amount of success in inter-conference play and is coming off of a season saving 92-89 upset over the Kansas Jayhawks. Iowa State always seems to play Kansas well and this victory could take the Cyclones a long way, but they must beat the inferior squads and it start's tonight against Texas.

"The Big 3?"

Against Kansas, all 3 senior starters, Monte Morris, Nazareth Mitrou-Long, and Deonte Burton,, combined for 76 out of Iowa State's 92 points in the overtime victory. This is a team that relies heavily on their seniors as the bench isn't deep. I look for this trio to play with a sense of urgency, looking to extend their college careers. If they can't beat Texas, they shouldn't be in the Big Dance.

It will be very interesting to see how Deonte Burton responds as he's coming off of a monster game against KU. In the big win, Burton finished up with 29 points on 7 of 9 shooting from 3-point land to go along with 8 rebounds and an amazing 6 steals. Expect the KU "Big 3" to come into this game with a tremendous amount of confidence.

Despite being just 2-7 in their last 9 games, the Longhorns have been very competitive in every game except for their most recent loss to TCU. This is a team that could easily possess a winning record, but winning is all that counts and Texas hasn't managed to close out games.

Freshman Jarrett Allen will be a key player in this game. He's a big man at 6 foot 11, 235 pounds, with a big future ahead of him. In his last 2 games, Allen has played exceptionally well, averaging 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds on 17 of 25 shooting from the field. The Iowa State defense must attempt to contain Allen or this game could be a toss up.
