The Baylor Bears are playing their best basketball of the season, but they’ll need to play even better to beat the Iowa State Cyclones Tuesday night. Let’s take a closer look at the college basketball odds for this Big 12 Conference matchup at the Ferrell Center, with the opening tip scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Valiant effort

Iowa State had its four-game winning streak snapped last Saturday, as it looks to bounce back from a 80-73 defeat to the Kansas State Wildcats as two-point road underdogs last Saturday.

The Cyclones are attempting to become the first Big 12 team to have three players averaging 17-plus points in conference play, with Melvin Ejim leading the way at 19.5 points a contest in that situation.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 6-6 SU and 7-5 ATS in March.

Nervous times

Baylor is trying to work its way off the bubble in landing a spot in the upcoming 2014 NCAA Tournament, as it has compiled a 5-1 SU and 4-1-1 ATS record over its last six games.

The Bears picked up a 59-49 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders as 8.5-point home favorites last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total of 129.

College basketball handicappers will find that the team is 0-2 SUATS as home favorites of three or fewer points since the 2011-12 campaign.

Scoring the basketball

The Cyclones are dangerous road underdogs when looking over the SBR Odds page, considering they lead the conference in averaging 83.2 points per game, while being the only program in the nation to score 70 or more points in every contest this season.

Iowa State is 17-0 SU when leading at the break this year, which is important to keep an eye on with Baylor winning 55 of its last 58 games when accomplishing that same feat.

Playing at home

The Bears will be trying to avenge a 87-72 defeat to the Cyclones as 7.5-point road underdogs in the first meeting this season on Jan. 7, with the OVER cashing for the fifth straight time in this series.

It’s important to point out that the host has won 20 of 22 all-time regular-season meetings in this rivalry.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Cyclones as one of their NCAA basketball picks, as the Bears are 4-12 ATS versus teams that average 77 or more points after 15 or more games in a season since 2011-12.

Sports bettors may want to wait until the opening tip to get involved in this matchup, as I anticipate the betting public to land on the host in a “must-win” situation.

Pick: Iowa State Cyclones +2
