The Iona Gaels and Rider Broncs have split their last 16 meetings against each other, as they prepare to face off for the first time during the 2013-14 campaign Friday night. Have we found and NCAAB betting value that is worth backing?

Let’s take a closer look at the NCAA basketball odds for this Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup, with the opening tip scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Iona is playing its best basketball of the 2013-14 campaign, as it has won nine games in a row, including a 89-70 victory over Monmouth as 13.5-point home favorites last Friday.

The Gaels currently occupy the top spot in the MAAC standings, while also leading the nation in three-point field goal makes.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 5-1 SUATS as road favorites of 3.5 to 6 points, with the OVER going 4-1 in that situation.

Back on track

Rider snapped a three-game losing streak in tallying a 71-62 victory over the Fairfield Stags as one-point road favorites last Saturday, while going OVER the betting total for a second consecutive contest.

The Broncs have three players averaging in double figures, with senior guard Anthony Miles leading the way at 16.7 points a contest.

College basketball handicappers will find that the team is 4-2 ATS as home underdogs of 3.5 to 6 points since the start of the 2011-12 campaign.

Plenty of firepower

The Gaels are worthy road favorites on the SBR Odds page, as they possess one of the more dynamic offensive attacks in college basketball—being one of four teams to have four players averaging 13 or more points per game.

Iona is 59-11 SU when reaching at least 80 points under current head coach Tim Cluess—a number that can certainly be reached against an opponent that allows opponents to shoot 45.9 percent from the field.

Capable from long distance

The Broncs shouldn’t be overlooked in this matchup in terms of perimeter shooting, as they enter leading the MAAC in knocking down 41 percent of their shots from beyond the arc.

Rider entered the 2014 calendar year with the best three point field goal percentage in the country, but has dropped to fifth in that category.

I’ve developed a handicapper line favoring the Gaels by 4.5 points in this matchup—a number that offers no edge in the current marketplace.

Sports bettors should monitor any line moves throughout the day, as Iona is worth a play at -4 or lower, while Rider should be backed at a number of +5.5 or higher.
