Thought for sure our weekly Hump Day dogs article was finished for the season, but since we have put together a sensational 21-9 record (70%) for the season, we get to produce one encore performance.

This week is completely different as we have more comparable teams from various conferences playing in what are expected to be closer contests. This time of year in the early rounds of conference tournaments, this is reflected in the college basketball odds.

In reviewing the numbers for Wednesday from the various tourney's, we will head to the Big East and Conference USA for our college basketball picks focused on underdogs.

With the Big Ten having left the Big Apple, the Big East takes over Madison Square Garden and the festivities start with a classic matchup. The names are familiar, St. John's (15-16, 13-15-1 ATS) and Georgetown (15-14, 12-13-1 ATS) and decades ago, these teams would meet in the semi-finals or finals on Friday or Saturday night in early March, not on a Wednesday.

While the names Patrick Ewing and Chris Mullen will be discussed for past glories, they are coaching teams in an 8/9 matchup. The Hoyas swept the Red Storm winning 93-89 at home (Pick) and 69-66 as 6.5-point road underdogs.

Georgetown is a 4.5-point underdog because they lost their four games (0-4 ATS) and eight of 10 (5-5 ATS). St. John's after a brutal 0-12 start in the Big East, finished their season an improved club at 5-3 SU and ATS.

For the Hoyas, this is the right opponent to stir their interest and they should have the confidence to play well since they have defeated the Johnnies twice. Watch G-Town drop Mullen's crew to 2-10 ATS on a neutral court and they have to get ready for top-seeded Villanova on Thursday.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. North Texas Mean Green

Higher Seeded Underdog North Texas Makes Louisiana Tech Green With Envy

In the last game of the opening day of C-USA tourney action, No.7 North Texas (15-16, 15-10 ATS) battles No. 10 Louisiana Tech (16-15, 10-17 ATS). The Bulldogs were sent as 2.5 point favorites by oddsmakers, who believed they underachieved, which based on their spread record that would seem true.

When going over the stats on the two teams, they are close and where Louisiana Tech has an edge is at the charity stripe, making 72 percent compared to only 65 percent for North Texas.

Where the Mean Green have a positive over the Bulldogs is they make two more three's per game on average than their opponent when on the road. Additionally, with North Texas a 66-65 loser at Louisiana Tech, they are 7-1 ATS playing with away revenge.
