We have enjoyed a tremendous season picking college hoops underdogs on this day of the week. Let's continue to improve upon our 18-8 ATS (69.2 percent) record.

Wednesday College Basketball: Hump Day (Under)Dogs

For one of our choices, we really wanted to take Clemson at Virginia Tech, but we found out this morning that starting point guard Shelton Mitchell will be out again with a concussion, which makes that too risky of a choice. Instead, we will go with underdogs from the Big Ten and the American and try to generate another sweep for college basketball picks.

A Super Big Ten Battle

Michigan (22-7, 17-11 ATS) is in the NCAA Tournament but has one more goal in mind. Penn State (19-10, 14-11-1 ATS) in very close to being in the tourney field and could be all but in by winning their last two Big Ten contests.

The Wolverines have to win their final two games and hope Nebraska splits its last two encounters, which would give them a fourth-seed (that would earn a double bye) in next week's conference tourney at Madison Square Garden. If Michigan is tied with the Cornhuskers, they would lose out because they were beaten in Lincoln in the team's lone matchup.

One could make the case the Nittany Lions are the more desperate club, still fighting to reach the Big Dance, and it is Senior Night in State College. However, Michigan at +3 is the right choice against the college basketball odds. The Wolverines know how to win and coach John Beilein's offensive schemes are as good as any in the country, due to spacing and ball movement.

This has the making of a very good game and I can see this ending up as two-point outcome either way.

Pirates Steal One as Home Underdogs

You have to feel for SMU (15-12, 9-13 ATS). It was known coming into the season the Mustangs had enough front-line talent to compete in the AAC, but they had a short bench. One thing the Ponies could not afford was injuries, but they have been hit hard and are limping to the end of the season with five straight losses (1-4 ATS), shooting less than 35 percent in this stretch.

East Carolina (10-15, 10-8 ATS) is fighting to reach .500 so they could get an invite to a minor postseason tournament. That is probably not going to happen, yet give the Pirates credit. They are playing competitive basketball and are 9-5 ATS in conference play and an even better 8-3 ATS as underdogs since the calendar turned to 2018.

At this point, the talent difference is not that large. Being able to take ECU with seven points and knowing they are 10-1 ATS off a home loss is too good to pass up with our NCAAB picks.
