We were very close to 2-0 sweep for our Wednesday underdogs last week, right in one game for 40 minutes before falling in the dreaded overtime session. Oh the pain!

In the end, that just furthers our resolve in making NCAA basketball picks, knowing we were that close and wanting to post up a couple winners for you as readers. In reviewing the NCAA basketball odds for this Wednesday, we think we have a pair and honestly believe they can win outright!

Southern Miss Has Backers and History on Its Side

Southern Miss is just 3-3 (2-2 ATS) and has alternated its wins and losses to this point. If you are positive thinker, the victories have come on the odd-numbered games, just like this one in South Alabama. Oddsmakers sent the Golden Eagles out as 6-point underdogs on the overnight line, but they have drawn enough support to be lowered to +4.5 as of this morning.

The Jaguars are solid defensive club, holding opposing teams to 61.9 points a contest on 39.5 percent shooting. Offensively, South Alabama plays a very patient game, averaging just 52 attempts, and this is likely done on purpose since they only connect on 41.6 percent of their attempts.

Where Southern Miss can expose USA is the Golden Eagles 44.4 percent of shot attempts and they are selective in their 19 three-point attempts on average, knocking down 37.5 percent. They are also more careful with the ball, averaging with ust 11 turnovers a game compared to 18 for South Alabama. Lastly, Southern Miss has no qualms about traveling to Mobile, sporting a 8-1 SU and ATS record there.

UNLV Finds Out Northern Iowa Is Nasty Road Stop

UNLV is earning its nickname back, the Runnin' Rebels, thanks to a 6-0 start (5-1 ATS) and averaging 96.3 PPG. UNLV has been using its blazing speed and athleticism to create easier shots, and they pound the offensive glass. The Rebels are shooting 52.1 percent from the field, and part of that comes from averaging 13.2 offensive rebounds a game, which is 12th in the country.

But there is a very good chance we will not see UNLV running up and down the floor against Northern Iowa, as the Panthers prefer a more controlled pace. UNI has no problem walking the ball up on offense and working the shot clock, which would force UNLV to have to really focus on defense for extended periods. That could lead to open 3-pointer or backdoor cuts to the basket for Northern Iowa.

The Panthers have played sound defense for years and are allowing only 57.1 PPG on 36 percent made attempts. And, they do not commit fouls as opponents are only taking a dozen foul shots per game. With oddsmakers agreeing this will be slower-paced game with the total of 141 and the Rebels 5-15 ATS on the road recently, the Panthers will be on the prowl.

Free NCAAB Pick: UNI +1Best Line Offered: Heritage
