Our handicapper looks at how the Top 25 teams in the nation have performed ATS lately to determine where is the betting value for our NCAA Basketball picks.
The following table includes the SU and ATS records of the Top 25 teams in NCAA Basketball according to AP.
Based on this information, the Top 25 teams with the best ATS records this season are Michigan State (19-9), Kansas (18-9), Xavier (18-11), California (17-12) and West Virginia (16-10).
The ranked teams that have poor ATS records and that we should avoid when placing NCAA Basketball picks are North Carolina (11-18-1), Baylor (9-13-1) and Kentucky (13-16).
Here are the top three ATS teams and the bottom three ATS teams among the Top 25 in the nation based on how they have performed lately.
No. 25 California (17-12 ATS)
The California Golden Bears are the hottest team in the nation, going 7-0 SU and ATS in their last seven games. Their next contest is on the road against No. 18 Arizona, who has lost two in a row straight up and four of their last five games ATS.
No. 13 Utah (14-13-1 ATS)
The Utah Utes have been on roll, going 6-0 SU and 5-1 SU in their last six games. The Utes host the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday. Colorado is playing decent basketball, winning two straight and their first meeting with Utah was competitive (a 56-54 loss on January 8). That being said, Utah will find a way to beat the NCAA Basketball odds and extend their impressive run.
No. 2 Michigan State (19-9 ATS)
The Michigan State Spartans have the best ATS record among top 25 and they're playing are 8-1 SU and 9-0 ATS in their last nine games. Michigan State visits Rutgers on Wednesday before hosting Ohio State next Saturday. Will the Spartans look ahead to their game against the Buckeyes? Not likely, this team is just too focused and they're a really solid bet at online sportsbooks like 5Dimes.
No. 9 Oregon (14-11-1 ATS)
The Oregon Ducks are playing well, winning five of their last seven games, but they have cost bettors money, going just 1-4 ATS in their last five games. Oregon has two tough Pac-12 games this week, first they visit UCLA tomorrow and then they travel to Galen Center to take on USC on Saturday. Look for Oregon to have trouble in at least one of these contests.
No. 15 Purdue (13-12 ATS)
The Purdue Boilermakers haven't been consistent lately, going just 3-3 SU in their last six games, with a poor 1-5 ATS record in that span. Purdue visits Nebraska tonight as a 3.5 favorite at 5Dimes before hosting Wisconsin on Sunday. Nebraska has lost three straight games but they did cover ATS in their 56-55 loss at Penn State in their most recent contest on February 25.
No. 16 Iowa (13-12 ATS)
The Iowa Hawkeyes have lost four of their last five games SU and they're 0-5 ATS in that span. Iowa hosts No. 12 Indiana tonight as a 5-point favorite before visiting Michigan on Saturday. Indiana has won three straight games, going 2-1 ATS in that span, so don't shade Iowa in tonight's game.
