We’re going to take a look at a couple of underdogs when Auburn travels to Tennessee, and Penn State takes on Maryland. These lines are pretty tight but I think there is could be some value in backing the dogs.

Free NCAAB Pick: Penn State +4Best Line Offered: at 5Dimes

It is never easy to win at Maryland but I’m a little surprised at this line with oddsmakers making the Terrapins a small four-point favorite. For my NCAAB pick, I will take Penn State plus the points as I really like how they matchup in this spot. On the season Penn State has been really competitive and I actually think they have a small chance to pull off the upset tonight. Statistically, Penn State is getting it done on both sides of the floor shooting a solid 47% from the field while allowing opponents to shoot just 41% so far this season. Looking at their schedule they have had some tough games, and over the past few weeks they’ve only had two losses both by just one point to Wisconsin and then a scrappy Rider team. Maryland statistically is also very good especially on the defensive side where they rank fifth in the country in opponent shooting efficiency. Their losses have also been close and come to three solid teams in St. Bonaventure, Syracuse, and Purdue. For me though this is a little bit of a line play going with the oddsmakers as it seems on wins and losses, plus competition, Maryland should be a little bit bigger of a favorite. Don’t buy into it though, Penn State matches up well with them and will take this game to the wire.

Free NCAAB Pick: Auburn +5.5Best Line Offered: at Heritage

Bruce Pearl gets an opportunity to coach in his old stomping grounds and oddsmakers have made his Auburn Tigers a +5.5 underdog. For my NCAA pick I will grab the points considering Auburn has played extremely well this season. What should play into Auburn’s hands in this matchup is the fact that Tennessee really likes to push tempo averaging 61.2 attempts for game. This fits into Auburn’s frenetic pace, but what I particularly like is the fact that Auburn is actually playing some decent defense this year allowing opponents to shoot just 39.5% overall. There isn’t a lot of wiggle room when we match these teams up statistically and they are pretty even across the board on both sides of the ball. Both teams shoot close to 40% from distance, and both teams rank in the top part of the country in opponent shooting efficiency. This is just too many points in my opinion when the pace should fit both teams perfectly. Look for this game to go down to the final buzzer which puts value on grabbing the points.
