Georgia vs. Mississippi St 8:00 PM EST
Mississippi St is coached by first year mentor Ben Howland, who rebuilt the Pitt program in the late 90’s then took UCLA to a pair of Final Fours. Now, he is working to rebuild a Mississippi St program who has had just 37 wins in the previous three seasons. Howland made a major step forward when Mississippi St hosted ArkansasTuesday night. Though the Hogs have never been known as a good road team under fifth year HC Anderson, they had played highly competitively on the road this season, losing by no more than 4 points to high quality teams Wake Forest, Dayton, LSU, Georgia, and Florida. The only blowout road loss was at Texas A&M. But against Mississippi St, nothing went right for the Hogs. Miss St held Arkansas to 16/72 (22% from the field), including just 1/10 from behind the arc. State had a +11 rebound margin and dished out 16 assists, while holding Arkansas to a 3/10 A/TO ratio. When the blood-letting was completed, Mississippi St won the game 78-46, covering the number by 33 points.

At the same time Miss St was clobbering Arkansas, Georgia was playing Kentucky in venerable Rupp Arena. The Bulldogs came in on a 4-2 SU, 6-0 ATS run as a 13 point road dog. They had not lost on the road by more than 14 points all season. Such would not be the case against Kentucky. When the final buzzer sounded, Georgia had hit just 11/50 (22% from the field), and authored a 5/15 A/TO ratio. It snapped Georgia’s 4-0 ATS point spread run on the road. The final of 84-48 saw Georgia lose to the point spread by 24 points.

We call this a double blowout, and it’s a situation that begs for a reversal. Georgia lost by 36 points, failing to cover the number by 24; Mississippi St won by 32 points, covering the number by 33. The combined 57 point differential from the spread leaves us with no alternative but to back Georgia in this contrary play. There is precedence for our action. Under 7th year HC Fox, Georgia is 33-14 ATS, including 4-1 ATS this year following a road loss. As well, Georgia is 38-18 ATS, 4-0 ATS this year, coming off a Conference loss.
