Gonzaga is favored on the NCAA basketball odds to extend its WCC streak of 23-straight road wins tonight when the Bulldogs travel to meet BYU.

Gonzaga Bulldogs (26-4 SU, 11-15 ATS) vs BYU Cougars (22-8 SU, 14-13 ATS)

Free NCAAB Pick: Under 143½
Best Line Offered: at 5Dimes

Having already secured at least a share of the West Coast Conference regular season title, the Gonzaga Bulldogs still have a little work to do in order to secure the No. 1 seed for the league tournament that begins next week in Las Vegas. A win over the BYU Cougars in Provo on Saturday evening would wrap that package up nice a neat for Mark Few and his squad

ESPN2 has the 8 PM (ET) contest at Marriott Center, and 5Dimes has Gonzaga -5, that spread flirting with 5½. For bettors interested in playing the scoreboard, 143½ is the mark.

‘Under’ 13-4 When Zags & Cougs Meet In WCC Action

This is still a new rivalry with all but two of the 19 meetings coming since BYU joined the WCC. Gonzaga’s 68-60 triumph three weeks ago gave the Bulldogs a 13-6 advantage in the rivalry after the teams traded road wins a season ago. The Cougars were getting 12 points in the previous matchup, their 2nd-straight cover in the series, both of those games at Gonzaga. The Bulldogs have brought home wins in their last three trips to Provo, covering two with last year’s 85-75 decision on this floor pushing a 10 point spread on the NCAA basketball odds.

Gonzaga has the 1-game lead over Saint Mary’s, the Gaels tipping their final regular season contest at home vs. Santa Clara two hours before this one. Should the Bulldogs fall to BYU and the Gaels beat the Broncos, Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s would share the WCC title. Determining the No. 1 seed for the conference tourney begins with head-to-head for the first tiebreaker, and the two split their regular season matchups. Tiebreaker No. 2 is their records against WCC teams, in descending order of the final standings. Brigham Young has already claimed the 3-seed for the tournament, and the Bulldogs would be 1-1 against the Cougars (assuming a loss Saturday) while the Gaels beat BYU twice.

BYU Back Home After 3-Game Road Trip

Dave Rose and the Cougars haven’t played in front of the home crowd in two weeks, spending their last three games away from Provo where BYU won two (Pepperdine, Portland) and lost one (San Diego). Of the six WCC losses, only one came at home (Saint Mary’s), the other five on the road and four of those as chalk. Brigham Young hasn’t been a good cover team, those playing the Cougars splitting the last 10 contests, but the ‘over’ has emerged as a solid trend, six of the last eight topping the mark as well as the last three at home.

That ‘over’ tendency in BYU games smacks against the ‘under’ frequency in the series, and I’ll side with the series side of the equation for my free college basketball pick.
