NCAA Basketball Odds Overview
The NCAA basketball odds boards have Fresno State of +7.5 -106 underdog like at Pinnacle. I think this is good value on a good Fresno State team that can hang with a lot of teams in the country. Overall, I think they match up well with UNLV, and this is arguably Rodney Terry's best team that he has had in his tenure, so I will make the Dogs one of my NCAA basketball picks for tonight.

Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State is averaging 74.8 points per game while shooting 43.5% from the field, and allowing 70.7 points per game on 42% shooting from the field. Offensively, they rely a lot on Marvelle Harris who is averaging just over 18 points per game, but what I like from the Dogs is that they are really deep this season. Coach Terry believes that this team can compete for a conference title, and I think he is right, as they have arguably the best backcourt in the league in Cezar Guerrero and Harris. They are off to their best start since 2006 and have been slowly improving the last three years, but the biggest difference this year is that they have everyone healthy and ready to go, and no key injuries like they have faced in years past. They are playing tough on the road with their three road losses being at ranked Oregon and Arizona, along with a surprisingly tough place to play at Cal Poly, and all those games they were right in it until the end. Offensively, Fresno doesn't shoot the three particularly well but they are decently efficient in their two point shooting at 47.1% from the field, and they will try to push some tempo averaging 50.6 shots per game. Defensively is where they get it done, and they know this is their foundation and where they have an opportunity to compete for the Mountain West. They rank in the better part of the country in opponent field goals made per game at 23.4 per contest, and they defend the three decently well at just 31.9% per game.

UNLV Runnin' Rebels
UNLV is averaging 74.3 points per game while shooting 44.5% from the field, and allowing 67.9 points per game on 41.4% shooting from the field. This is a really athletic team that also have a shot to win the Mountain West if things go their way. Offensively, they have been decent so far and rank better than average in most offensive categories, specifically in assists where they average 15.3 per game. Defensively, they also have some nice statistics and rank better than average in most of them across the board, specifically ranking right next to Fresno State in opponent field goals made at 23.5 per game. At home they are very difficult team to beat, and last year they handled a much different Bulldog team winning by double digits.

This a good matchup of two of the better teams in the Mountain West, but I honestly think Fresno State is just as good if not better than UNLV. It makes sense for odds makers to make the Rebels the favorite at home where they seem at times to get some really nice home cooking, but from a matchup and coaching perspective these teams are neck and neck. For one of your NCAA basketball picks, I recommend taking the points with the Bulldogs in a game that should go down to the wire as long as the refs call it fair.
