The 140 DEFENSIVE CLUB … AND MORE

At the beginning of January, I wrote an article about the importance of the fundamentals in CBKB. I proved at that time that when combining the fundamentals of rebounds, assists and TOs with great defense, that it also led to pointspread success. Now, it is time for a review of that article, including the fundamentals listed in the first review.

To refresh your memory, success in basketball comes with the fundamentals of defense, rebounds, good shot selection and taking care of the basketball. These translate into the statistical categories listed below in our chart. To qualify for this list, our teams must meet the following criteria:

  • Allow less than 70 PPG
  • A less than 140 sum of PPG, DEF FG%, plus DEF 3 PT Shooting%
  • A positive rebound margin
  • A positive assist/TO margin
  • A positive net TO margin

To save space and for the sake of convenience, all scoring numbers and shooting percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number. To make a final judgment on the success of these teams, we add their SU and ATS mark for the season to date. Teams researched are all regular board teams, excluding “added games.”

The combined lofty record of these teams is 378-113 SU (77%) and 242-175 ATS (58%). That is very impressive, considering that the NCAA basketball odds have adjusted for their excellence in recent weeks. You may not want to PLAY ON these teams every time they take the court, but finding them in the right situation and being careful NOT to PLAY AGAINST them is sound advice for your NCAA basketball picks.
