We had free college basketball picks on totals for Gonzaga and North Carolina matchups in Round 1, and fearlessly follow with scoreboard predictions for the same teams in Round 2.

While it’s understandable that some folks are tired of seeing Alabama and Clemson square off in the College Football Playoffs, watching a couple of dynasties go head-to-head never gets boring to me. That’s why it won’t upset me one little bit if Gonzaga and North Carolina eventually meet up in the West Region Finals next weekend in Los Angeles.

Playing their opening games nearly on opposite sides of the continent, the Tar Heels in Charlotte and the Bulldogs in Boise, we looked at totals wagers for their Round 1 games earlier this week, and split the two. So, why not come right back for their 2nd-round matchups with a look at scoreboard plays?

Zags & Buckeyes Rematch Highlights St. Paddy’s

For anyone who hasn’t passed out yet on St. Patrick’s Day, this should be a nice prime-time clash as Gonzaga gets it on with the Ohio State Buckeyes in a tip around 8 PM (ET) on CBS. The market has the Bulldogs -3½ with 143 for the total in a rematch from an encounter during one of the PK80 brackets last November.

One of the first things we notice is the scoreboard hurdle on Saturday is a full seven points lower than what it was about four months ago. Gonzaga won going away, 86-59, and the final wasn’t all that short of 150 despite Ohio State not contributing much on 19-off-55 shooting (34.5%). The Bulldogs, on the other hand, were hot connecting on better than 58% from the field and 12-of-25 from beyond the arc. Mark Few’s team found the going much tougher in a 68-64 win over UNC-Greensboro to begin this tourney, and some of the credit has to go to the Spartans’ defense. If Greensboro hadn’t gone 0-for-13 from 3-point range in the first half, it would’ve been a much different game and not stayed just ‘under’ the total. I’ll take the ‘over’ for my free NCAA basketball pick in this one

Tar Heels Face Aggies To Continue NCAA Title Defense

So far, so good for Papa Bush’s pick. The elder President Bush went with Texas A&M to win the National Championship during a little Twitter tete-á-tete with former President Obama earlier this week, and the Aggies at least got 41 through the first round by taking out Providence. Getting through Round 2 against North Carolina should prove more difficult. The college basketball odds have UNC -6 and 152 for the total.

The Aggies fired up late to help skip them and the ‘over’ 138½; the Heels started slow and it wasn’t until a 10-1 run to end the first half that they were even close to pushing their game with Lipscomb towards a 165½ mark. It stayed ‘under’ and so will this one.
