Connecticut and Colorado looks to be one of the better games on the opening day. Both teams finished in the middle of their conferences and odds makers have the Huskies as a small favorite.

NCAA basketball odds experts have made UCONN a -3 favorite like at Pinnacle Sports -110. For one of my NCAA tournament picks I will back the Colorado Buffaloes getting the points though as this has been a resurgent year for them. I believe Colorado has a very good chance to win this game straight up despite UCONN being the popular pick.

Colorado Buffaloes
Colorado averages 75.4 points per game and rank 16th in the country shooting 38.9% from beyond the arc. This has really been a comeback year for the Buffs and they have had a very solid season in the PAC 12. After a bad loss at UCLA Colorado just went 3-2 in their final five games but the two losses were by a combined six points. Their issues mainly stemmed from their home and away disparities as they simply could not get it done when they traveled but only lost one game at home in league play which was to a good Utah team by two points. They push tempo decently well at 59.7 field goal attempts per game and defensively they rank as one of the better teams in the country in opponent shooting efficiency, effective field goal percentage, and opponent two point shooting percentage. The Buffs also hit the boards hard averaging 42.3 rebounds per game which ranks fourth in the country.

UCONN Huskies
UCONN ranks 4th, 5th, and 6th in the country in opponent overall shooting percentage, opponent shooting efficiency, and opponent effective field goal percentage. This team knows to go deep into the tournament they must defend and they have been very good this season in limiting opponents to just 21.7 field goals made per game which ranks 15th in NCAA basketball. Offensively they control pace and rely most their scoring on the interior averaging 46% on their two point shooting and getting to the line where they rank first in the country in free throw shooting percentage. However, Colorado presents some difficulties for them despite what the pundits say. If Colorado can get up and down the floor, rebound like they do and get some rhythm with their threes I like for them to pull the minor upset. At worst I believe this game goes down to the final shot.
