The #9 West Virginia Mountaineers find themselves in a very favorable matchup against a Texas Longhorns team. Look for WVU to played inspired basketball as they look to improve upon their 9-5 inter-conference record.

Texas Longhorns vs West Virginia Mountaineers

Squeaking Out a "W"

As stated earlier, any team can beat any team at any given time and these two teams have met before with West Virginia managing a 2 point victory. In the end, a win is a win, but I expect West Virginia to make a statement in this game as this high-octane offense can't be thrilled with the way that they played in the first meeting between these two foes.

This West Virginia team has been a giant killer as they possess victories over Virginia, Baylor, and Kansas. At those times in the season, Baylor was ranked #1 in the nation and Kansas #2. Texas appears like "easy pick", but WVU can't take the Longhorns lightly as this would be a crushing loss if the Mountaineers went down in defeat.

These are two really tough defenses that allow under 70 points per game. The difference in the game is the play of each respective offense as Texas' offense average's under 70 points per game and doesn't possess the firepower that the WVU does.

Jarrett Allen

One player that Texas is really high on is freshman Jarrett Allen. At 6 foot 11, 235 pounds, Allen has the size and skills to easily take his game to the next level. For the season, Allen is averaging 13.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. He's a guy that hovers around the paint and has a soft touch from inside 10 to 12 feet from the basket.

With Allen, you'll see a lot of putbacks and this is a two-way player that make's intelligent decisions out on the court. I expect him to give West Virgina a good deal of trouble.

For West Virginia, we'll see frequent substitutions as this a very deep team with a lot of talent. The energy level will be high as the Mountaineers look for Jevon Carter to build upon his last game. In his last game, he went for 24 points and 7 rebounds in a double overtime victory over Texas Tech,

While WVU is clearly the better team, they've had some close calls and I'm going to fade them here and take the points with Texas.
