No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 9 TCU open the 2017 Phillips 66 Men’s Basketball Championship at Sprint Center in Kansas City on Wednesday afternoon. They split the regular season series, but are trending in opposite directions entering this neutral site encounter.

Oklahoma Sooners vs TCU Horned Frogs

Oklahoma and TCU are two teams headed in different directions. The Horned Frogs went 0-7 SU and 1-6 ATS to close out Big 12 play, including a 73-68 loss at Lloyd Noble Center in the regular season finale. The Sooners, meanwhile, are sporting a 6-0 ATS streak. A then-red-hot TCU squad eked out a narrow 60-57 home victory as 11-point chalk in the first matchup in early January.

Oklahoma played well defensively both times out, holding TCU to 60 and 68 points on 42.2 percent shooting overall. The biggest advantage for Lon Kruger’s men has been offensive rebounding and at the charity stripe, where the Sooners shot 69.7 percent to the Horned Frogs’ 63 percent. Freshman duo Kameron McGusty and Kristian Doolittle matured immensely down the stretch for Oklahoma and will have to stand tall to tournament pressure in this one.

TCU is improving as a program but looks to have peaked a tad early for tournament play. The talent gap between the two favors the Sooners, which has tipped off a 9.5-point favorite on average between the two over the last decade. Valuable late season experience has Kruger’s squad looking to extend their playing time. Oklahoma is 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS in four games versus Big 12 opponents with an average scoring margin of 7 points or less. The Horned Frogs enter with a 3.9 differential for the season. Sooners on the money line is the college basketball pick.
