The Duke Blue Devils come limping into their matchup with Notre Dame tonight. Oddsmakers still give Duke respect as the odds for this game is a pick'em with Notre Dame being at home, but Duke has been unable to get into the groove without Coach K barking out the orders.

Duke Blue Devils vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish

No Krzyzewski, No Win

It sure seems that way as Duke is a team that relies on the guidance of their legendary head coach, Mike Krzyzewski. Krzyzewski had been temporarily out of action but can't seem to get the time to recuperate as Duke is just .500 in ACC inter-conference play. We all know about Coach K's recent disciplinary actions as a gesture to wake this team up and although it wasn't pretty, the team has appeared to have responded.

Duke is coming off of an 85-83 victory over Wake Forest, thanks to the outstanding play of Luke Kennard as Kennard scored 30 of his 34 points in the 2nd half while shooting 10 of 10 from the field in the 2nd half along with hitting the game-winning 3-point shot with just under 7 seconds to go.

Kennard To the Rescue

Duke was looking for a huge season from Grayson Allen, who averaged 21.6 points per game last season, but Allen has been a disaster this season. He hasn't been able to keep his temper under control and has also shoot quite poorly, managing just under 40% from the field. Allen's stock has dropped mightily.

Instead, the sophomore guard, Luke Kennard, has stepped up in a big way as he lead's the Blue Devils with 20.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 46.8% from beyond the arc and also shooting 84.3% from the free throw line. Kennard has been the glue that's kept this team together.

In his last 2 games, he's averaging 27 points per game and look for Kennard to put up a big game here as this game is a statement game where Duke is concerned in response to Coach K's disciplinary actions.

Duke might be catching Notre Dame at an opportune moment as the Fighting Irish has lost their last 2 games and 3 out of their last 4. This is a very top heavy Notre Dame squad with 4 players averaging 14 points per game or more, led by "Mr. Double-Double". Bonzie Colson.

Colson, averaging 15.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, must take control of the boards as Duke will still be a desperate team. Look for this game to go down to the wire. Notre Dame has averaged just 60 points per game in their last 3 games and look for Duke to squeeze out a victory in a very important game.
