VCU is known for its pressing style of defense, but Villanova’s ability to stop opponents on the offensive end makes it a worthwhile college basketball pick Monday night.

Under Pressure
Villanova has outscored its opponents by a combined 80-33 margin in points off of turnovers in winning its first three games of the 2014-15 campaign, which is important to consider when looking over the NCAA Basketball odds, with guard Darrun Hilliard being the main player to watch due to averaging 3.3 steals per contest.

The Wildcats were a bit sloppy in handling the ball in their two exhibition games, but they come in averaging just 9.3 miscues per game during the regular season.

Since the start of the 2012-13 season, the program is 36-6 SU and 29-13 ATS as favorites, with the OVER going 23-17 in that situation.

Offensive Firepower
VCU has scored 85 or more points in each of its first three games for the second time in school history, which can’t be ignored when making your College Basketball picks, as it looks to improve upon its 5-2 SU record when playing at the Barclays Center.

The Rams have four of five scheduled starters averaging double figures in scoring, with junior guard Melvin Johnson leading the way at 18.3 points per contest—shooting 52.6 percent overall from the field and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the squad is 3-6 SU and 4-5 ATS as underdogs.

That 70’s Show
The Wildcats have captured 28 of 29 games when scoring 70 or more points since the start of last season, as they come in averaging 76.7 per contest.

All five projected starters are averaging double figures, with forward JayVaughn Pinkston being the main player to watch due to growing up 15 minutes away from this venue.

Raising the Stakes
The Rams have tallied 12 wins against ranked teams in their 47-year history as a program, with eight of those coming during the Shaka Smart era, including a 2-1 mark in three opportunities a year ago.

This is the first-ever meeting between these two schools, but VCU has captured eight of 14 meetings against current members of the Big East Conference.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Wildcats as one of their top picks, as they’ve gone 39-19 ATS in their last 58 overall games.
