The San Diego State Aztecs possess a stifling defense, but it doesn’t necessarily translate into victories. On the other hand, the Nevada Wolf Pack, are coming into tonight’s matchup after 1 point loss and will be looking to make amends as they come into this game as the betting favorite.

A 3 Point Favorite?

Usually, when the odds don’t appear accurate, the odds makers are right in their assessment. In this case, both teams are coming off of losses, but Nevada has had a much more successful season, is undefeated at home while San Diego State hasn’t won on the road. Something doesn’t feel right as Nevada should be more than a 3 point favorite.

The Wolf Pack are coming off of a heartbreaking 77-76 loss to Fresno State which broke their 7 game winning streak. Fresno State literally “stole” the game away from Nevada in the last 30 seconds. Now, the Wolf Pack face the unenviable task in dealing with a San Diego State defense which doesn’t allow many points. Year in, year out, the Aztecs pride themselves on their defense and this season’s Aztecs squad is allowing a mere 61.8 points and it could be a major reason why San Diego State is just a 3 point underdog.

In their last 5 games, the Aztecs have went 4-1 and have allowed a mere 54.2 points per game. Can the Aztecs stop senior Marcus Marshall as he’s a game changer and has been consistently providing a ton of offense for the Wolf Pack?

Marcus Marshall

Marshall’s contributions play a major role in this game as he lead’s the Wolf Pack at 20.9 points per game. He also shoots just over 40% from beyond the arc and his 80.5% from the free throw line will come in handy in case this game is close or the Wolf Pack have a slight lead.

In his last 3 games, Marshall scored 25 points in each ball game and although the Aztecs defense is tough, I think that he’ll light San Diego State up for at least 20 points.

As stated earlier, the Aztecs don’t have a huge win on their resume and despite their impressive defense, they won’t get one here as they haven’t found a way to win consistently and haven’t won on the road.
