The St. Mary's Gaels have been breezing through their relatively easy schedule thus far as this AP Top 25 team has only one blemish on their record. Tonight, the Gaels will face the Loyola Marymount Lions on the road, this will be a test to prove if they're as good as their record indicates.

Wake Up Call?

Ever since their 65-51 loss to the Utah Utes, St. Mary's has blown out their next 4 opponents by 20 points or more in each game. Granted, the strength of schedule is not a "strength" of the Gaels, but they can only defeat the teams that are displayed on their schedule and they could get a run for their money in the form of the Loyola Marymount Lions.

Jock Landale

For St. Mary's, their team starts and finishes with center Jock Landale. Landale possesses the size to battle in the paint and he also possesses a nice offensive touch. Landale leads the Gaels in scoring and rebounding at 17.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He's coming off of 3 consecutive games in which he's had at least 11 rebounds and a strong 20 points. Landale has been putting up huge numbers in limited time as the Gaels have been blowing out their opponents. Expect a 20 point, 10 rebound effort from Landale as the Lions are no pushovers.

One thing that stands's out where the Lions are concerned this is that every game this season has either been a blowout in their favor or in 3 out of their 4 losses, they lost by just 3 points or less. Remember, odds makers list St. Mary's as an 11.5 point betting favorite and they'll be hard-pressed to cover such a large number against a team that's been competitive all season long.

The Lions got a nice boost from Steven Haney (9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds) in their last game as Haney scored 22 out of his 24 points in the 2nd half of their 70-49 victory over Morgan State. Haney could come into this game with confidence and the Lions will rely on the offense of senior, Brandon Brown. Brown had 3 consecutive 20 plus point efforts up until the Morgan State game in which he was just 2 of 10 from the field for 5 points.

Look for a bounce back effort from Brown and the Lions will keep this game competitive. The number is too high and this is a gift.
