In another huge battle at Charlottesville, the Virginia Cavaliers host the Ohio State Buckeyes in a matchup of the unbeaten. Virginia is a 13.5 point betting favorite and this number seems quite high. Do the Cavaliers have what it takes to cover the spread against the Buckeyes, who haven't tasted defeat in their first 6 games of the season?

Cupcakes For the Cavs

The one thing that concerns me about Virginia being such a large betting favorite is that their schedule up until now has been quite easy. Granted, Virginia has been blowing out teams like Grambling with conviction, but the strength of schedule is the first thing that stands out here for me when I look at Virginia.

As for the Buckeyes, they have also had a weak schedule thus far, but are coming off of a lopsided 111-70 victory over Marshall and the Buckeyes are certainly ready for their first major test of the 2016-2017 NCAA Basketball Season.

Virginia possesses a very efficient offense, shooting an outstanding 51.9% from the field as a team. This is a complete team effort as 7 players on the Cavs squad average 7 points or more and 10 players average 10 minutes or more per game.

This is an offense that remains energetic and fresh but lacks a go-to guy. Darius Thompson has made the most of his 21 minutes per game as he leads Virginia with 10 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the 3-point range and 56.8% shooting from the field. Many teams in the past such as Kentucky have been successful playing with so many substitutions and a great deal of talent on the team. Look for Virginia to be ready.

While Ohio State doesn't have the team depth that Virginia has, they're are somewhat similar to the Cavs in that they're efficient offensively (51 % from the field) and any player can step up on any given occasion. The Buckeyes will look to lean on their leading scorers Jae'Sean Tate (14.3 points, 7 rebounds) and Kam Williams (13.7 points, 56.3% -3 point range).

Virginia has the better team, but the odds stick out like a sore thumb as they're too high. Take OSU and the points for your NCAA basketball predictions.
